Multifarious human pressures can adversely impact estuaries' benthic functioning, yet this is less understood in tropical regions. This study examined the macrobenthic functional patterns of three differentially impacted tropical estuaries to elucidate the response of traits to stress, link taxonomical and functional structures and metrics and identify influential environmental factors of benthic functioning. Taxonomic and functional indices were positively correlated, suggesting that estuaries were vulnerable to functional shifts following species extinction due to environmental changes.

Objectives To determine the clinical profile, management and outcomes in patients of ectopic pregnancy (EP) presenting to the hospital. Methods A prospective observational study was done on 75 women with ectopic pregnancy among a total of 1350 women who attended the Gynecology department over a period of 18 months from December 2020 until June 2022. The preservation of ecosystem functioning of coastal zones, in face of increasing environmental stressors and species extinctions, relies on the functional redundancy and inherent resilience of its inhabitants. To compare the benthic functioning and resilience of a disturbed area with a relatively less impacted area, a study was conducted in Mumbai Port and Malvan Marine Protected Area (MPA), which exhibited contrasting characteristics. The hypothesis posited that the anthropogenically influenced Mumbai port would exhibit lower functional parameters and resilience compared to Malvan.

Estuaries experience incessant modifications due to various stressors causing shifts in the benthic species community structure and ecosystem functioning. Two tropical estuaries along Northwest India, exposed to varied intensities of anthropogenic perturbations, were sampled seasonally for two consecutive years. Specific aims were to assess, compare and link the macroinvertebrate taxonomic and functional structures, to evaluate the resilience of estuarine benthic ecosystems by employing the multiple-trait approach and to identify major influencing environmental drivers for patterns discerned.

Marine hotspots are areas prioritized for conservation and monitoring, based on their sensitivity or vulnerability. Understanding the natural variability of resident organisms in such critical areas is integral for deciphering human-induced perturbations to formulate appropriate management strategies. Five marine hotspots along northwest India, comprising three active harbours and two marine protected areas, were surveyed seasonally to understand the macrofaunal distribution patterns and functional traits.
