Aim: Wāhine Connect is a peer-mentoring organisation established in 2017 by a medical clinician to address an unmet need by enabling peer-to-peer wāhine mentorship in medicine and health in Aotearoa New Zealand. This retrospective descriptive study reports the demographic and work profiles of women seeking mentoring, their reasons for seeking mentoring and satisfaction with their experience of the programme.
Methods: Mentees' registration data were analysed to describe demographic characteristics of women seeking mentorship and the reasons women chose to seek mentorship.
Objective: To develop a quality standard, termed a Clinical Care Standard (CCS), for the diagnosis and management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Methods: A Working Group with consumer representation cocreated guiding principles and quality statements for RA care through a series of workshops. The process was informed by consumer recommendations, clinical practice guidelines, and international quality criteria.
A group-based, online-delivered version (iSelf-help) of an existing group-based in-person pain management programme was developed. Development included Māori (New Zealand's Indigenous population) cultural considerations of content. This study determined whether offering iSelf-help was non-inferior to the in-person pain management programme in reducing pain-related disability at six months.

Despite the importance of digital health education, consensus on essential primary medical degree content is lacking. Focusing on core competence domains can address critical skills while minimising additions to an already demanding curriculum.

Materials And Methods: A mixed methods realist evaluation was conducted with remote specialist assessors (physiotherapists and occupational therapists), on-site assistants, and wheelchair users. Interviews/focus groups, mobility goal achievement, satisfaction, and fidelity of tele-delivered assessment of wheelchair and seating (tAWS) contributed to Context-Mechanism-Outcome configurations (CMOc).
Osteoarthr Cartil Open
June 2025
Background: Core osteoarthritis interventions are ideally delivered in community-based settings. However, many community-based clinicians lack confidence and/or competence to effectively deliver high-quality, culturally-safe, evidence-based osteoarthritis care.
Objective: Assess changes in community-based dietitians', pharmacists', and physiotherapists' knowledge and confidence to treat people with knee osteoarthritis after completing online KneeCAPS training, and explore perceptions of usefulness, what clinicians learned, and how this influenced their ability to provide osteoarthritis care.
Many people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) believe that certain foods may influence disease activity. Elimination reintroduction diets and oral food challenges are dietary strategies used to identify foods that may exacerbate symptoms. This review summarises and appraises the literature on elimination diet interventions that include food reintroductions or oral food challenges in adults with RA.

Methods: This phase 1 study involved healthy volunteers (HV) and patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). Participants used Bend Ease by placing a phone against their chest during a forward-flexion bend, and the application collected and processed accelerometry data to measure bend angle in both clinical and at-home settings.
Importance: Rapid digitalization of health care and a dearth of digital health education for medical students and junior physicians worldwide means there is an imperative for more training in this dynamic and evolving field.
Objective: To develop an evidence-informed, consensus-guided, adaptable digital health competencies framework for the design and development of digital health curricula in medical institutions globally.
Evidence Review: A core group was assembled to oversee the development of the Digital Health Competencies in Medical Education (DECODE) framework.
Objectives: There is no guidance to support the reporting of systematic reviews of mobile health (mhealth) apps (app reviews), so authors attempt to use/modify the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). There is a need for reporting guidance, building on PRISMA where appropriate, tailored to app reviews. The objectives were to describe the reporting quality of published mHealth app reviews, identify the need for, and develop potential candidate items for a reporting guideline.

Healthcare contributes a noteworthy 4-6% to the total carbon footprint and 5-7% of the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Environmental pollution and modern lifestyles are also contributing to the increased prevalence of autoimmune and lifestyle-related rheumatic disease.

We aimed to seek the views of users of public hospital rheumatology services on potential components of a rheumatology service.
Methods: Online survey of adults in Aotearoa New Zealand who self-reported as having used district health board rheumatology services in the past 5 years.
Objective: Little is known about the preferences of people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) regarding tapering of biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs). The aim of this study was to assess the preferences of people with RA in relation to potential treatment-related benefits and risks of bDMARD tapering and the health care service-related attributes that affect tapering.
Methods: Participants with RA who had experience taking a bDMARD completed an online discrete choice experiment.
Introduction: Reviews of commercial and publicly available smartphone (mobile) health applications (mHealth app reviews) are being undertaken and published. However, there is variation in the conduct and reporting of mHealth app reviews, with no existing reporting guidelines. Building on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we aim to develop the Consensus for APP Review Reporting Items (CAPPRRI) guidance, to support the conduct and reporting of mHealth app reviews.

This lack of clear process for health professional education mobile apps may explain the lack of quality mobile apps to support medical student learning.
Goal Of Innovation: The goal of this project was to develop a student informed ready for production wireframe model of a minimally viable mobile app to support learning of musculoskeletal (MSK) clinical skills.

Objective: We performed a scoping review of the relevant literature on home-based telehealth in rheumatology to understand its appropriate application in rheumatology practice.
Methods: We searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, and scientific meeting abstracts to identify articles that specifically addressed telehealth suitability, barriers to telehealth, patient-reported outcomes (PROs) collected in telehealth settings, and telehealth satisfaction. From the initial search of 4,882 studies, 23 reports were included.
Objective: Mobile Health (mHealth) refers to using mobile devices to support health. This study aimed to identify specific methodological challenges in systematic reviews (SRs) of mHealth interventions and to develop guidance for addressing selected challenges.
Study Design And Setting: Two-phase participatory research project.
Objective: Approximately one third of individuals worldwide have not received a COVID-19 vaccine. Although studies have investigated risk factors linked to severe COVID-19 among unvaccinated people with rheumatic diseases (RDs), we know less about whether these factors changed as the pandemic progressed. We aimed to identify risk factors associated with severe COVID-19 in unvaccinated individuals in different pandemic epochs corresponding to major variants of concern.

However, it remains unclear if technology has driven real change in HPE. In this article, we seek to develop an understanding of the transformative capacity of learning technology in HPE.

Methods: An anonymous online survey for people with rheumatic diseases was launched in January 2021.
Purpose: This pilot study aimed to investigate the acceptability and efficacy of a patient storytelling intervention (live and recorded) on empathy levels of medical students.
Materials And Methods: Medical students participated in a storytelling intervention that had three components: listening to live or recorded stories from women with abnormal uterine bleeding, reflective writing, and a debriefing session. Empathy scores of students pre- and post-intervention were measured using the Jefferson Scale of Empathy-student version (JSE-S).
