Introduction: Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a chronic inflammatory disorder that causes stiffness and pain in the proximal joints, including the shoulders, hips and neck. The exact cause of polymyalgia rheumatica is yet to be fully understood, but research suggests that both genetic and environmental factors may contribute to it. Studies have previously linked the onset and relapse of polymyalgia rheumatica symptoms to the influenza and COVID-19 vaccines.

Adipose tissue is now recognized as an endocrine organ that secretes bioactive molecules called adipokines. These biomolecules regulate key physiological functions, including insulin sensitivity, energy metabolism, appetite regulation, endothelial function and immunity. Dysregulated secretion of adipokines is intimately associated with obesity, and translates into increased risk of obesity-related cardiovasculo-metabolic diseases.

While the rupture rate of cerebral aneurysms is only 1% per year, ruptured aneurysms are associated with significant morbidity and mortality, while aneurysm treatments have their own associated risk of morbidity and mortality. Conventional markers for aneurysm rupture include patient-specific and aneurysm-specific characteristics, with the development of scoring systems to better assess rupture risk. These scores, however, rely heavily on aneurysm size, and their accuracy in assessing risk in smaller aneurysms is limited.
