Heart transplantation using donation after circulatory death (DCD) has recently re-emerged alongside donation after brain death (DBD). This technique can potentially increase the number of available cardiac grafts. However, its clinical outcomes remain limited.

Implantation and removal of central temporary paracorporeal biventricular support for COVID-19-associated myocarditis.

This case report illustrates how to implant a central paracorporeal temporary biventricular assist device in a 17-year-old patient with acute heart failure due to a fulminant form of coronavirus disease 2019 myocarditis. The procedure was carried out after prior veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support. Myocardial biopsies and biventricular assist device explants are also included in the report.

Unlabelled: is a well-known cause of blood culture-negative endocarditis; however, pulmonary valve involvement is rare. The case of a 40-year-old African male who presented to the Emergency Department with chest pain, cardiac failure, and a 2-week history of fever is presented. Transoesophageal echocardiography confirmed an atrial septal defect, severe pulmonary insufficiency with large vegetations, severe mitral regurgitation due to anterior leaflet prolapse, and right ventricular dysfunction.

Evidence for a lack of inotropic and chronotropic effects of glucagon and glucagon receptors in the human heart.

Background: Glucagon is thought to increase heart rate and contractility by stimulating glucagon receptors and increasing 3',5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) production in the myocardium. This has been confirmed in animal studies but not in the human heart. The cardiostimulatory effects of glucagon have been correlated with the degree of cardiac dysfunction, as well as with the enzymatic activity of phosphodiesterase (PDE), which hydrolyses cAMP.

Accessory left atrial cords: A case report and literature review.

Introduction: Accessory left atrial cords are fibroelastic structures found in the left atrium. Left atrial cords may be associated with mitral valve disease, atrial fibrillation, stroke, and other congenital left-side anomalies.

Methods: We presented the case of a man with severe Mitral Regurgitation and two accessories left atrial cords attached to P2 scallop by a single tendon and performed a literature review using PUBMED/MEDLINE, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases on December 4, 2021.

Mid-term outcomes of rapid deployment aortic prostheses in patients with small aortic annulus.

Objectives: The Edwards Intuity valve is a rapid deployment aortic prosthesis that favours less invasive approaches. However, evidence about the clinical behaviour of their smaller sizes is scarce. Herein, we studied haemodynamic behaviours and clinical outcomes of small Intuity prostheses (19-21 mm) in comparison to larger Intuity prostheses (>21 mm).
