Background: Recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy (RLNP) is not uncommon after thyroid surgery and can be debilitating. This is a retrospective cohort analysis of outcomes in patients with RLNP post-thyroidectomy for differentiated thyroid malignancy.
Method: Clinicopathological details as well as outcomes of thyroidectomies for differentiated thyroid cancer in 862 patients performed over a period of 22 years (2001-2023) for nerve palsy were collected.

Introduction: Sympathetic paragangliomas (PGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumours originating from chromaffin cells, primarily in the thorax, abdomen, and pelvis. Paediatric PGLs are particularly uncommon, but they represent a notable cause of secondary hypertension in children. These tumours frequently have a genetic basis, with up to 40% of patients carrying germline mutations, including variants of unknown significance (VUS), which present diagnostic and management challenges.

The CAPTAIN trial is a prospective multi-center randomized-controlled trial evaluating the safety of continuing acetylsalicylic acid preoperatively in patients undergoing elective laparoscopic inguinal hernia mesh repair (LIHR).
Methods: Patients undergoing LIHR were eligible for inclusion.
Background: Given the increasing prevalence of antiplatelet agent use and the lack of high-quality evidence, the CAPTAIN trial aimed to investigate the safety and provide recommendations on continuing acetylsalicylic acid perioperatively in patients undergoing elective laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal inguinal hernia repair (LIHR).
Methods: The CAPTAIN trial was a multicentre, surgeon blind, randomized controlled trial conducted from April 2016 to April 2023. Patients undergoing LIHR were eligible for inclusion.
We report on a case of a 67-year-old male who was referred to our care with persistent aldosteronism post adrenalectomy. Biochemical failure after surgery is rare after surgery for primary aldosteronism (PA). Persistent hypokalaemia and raised aldosteronism is an indication of treatment failure after surgery.

Few studies have examined whether glucocorticoid replacement (GR) therapy is required after retroperitoneal laparoscopic unilateral adrenal adenoma resection in patients with non-cortisol secreting tumors, or whether there is any correlation between preoperative biochemical indicators and postoperative cortisol function. This study sought to investigate which patients with non-cortisol secreting tumors required GR therapy after undergoing retroperitoneal laparoscopic resection of unilateral adrenal cortical adenoma.

We document a 64-year-old man with an incidentally discovered combined ganglioneuroma-schwannoma of the retroperitoneum that was intimately associated with sympathetic ganglia. We highlight the morphological and immunohistochemical findings of this rare tumor, and show evidence of its origin from sympathetic ganglia.

Background: The cure for patients with primary hyperaldosteronism (PHA) secondary to solitary adrenal adenoma is adrenalectomy. We investigated the impact of size of Conns' tumour on hypertension resolution in a multi-ethnic South East Asian Cohort.
Methods: Retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent surgery for PHA between January 2010 to December 2022 was performed.

Background: Preoperative diagnosis of parathyroid cancer (PC) where possible allows for en-bloc resection of the tumour, which is associated with excellent prognosis. The rule of >3 (size of tumour larger than 3 cm; corrected calcium more than 3 mmol/L) as proposed by Schulte and Talat has a specificity of 95% in predicting malignancy in parathyroid neoplasms. We looked at the impact of rule of 3 in predicting malignancy and outcomes on intervention in a South Asian cohort.

The expression of programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) has been used to determine the responses of many cancers to immunotherapy. The aim of the study was to investigate the expression of PD-L1 in a cohort of patients with PDC and ATC to assess their suitability for immunotherapy.

The Human Genome Project and The Cancer Genome Atlas project brought about a new era, with an understanding of inherited diseases at a molecular level, which subsequently facilitated the option of precision medicine. Precision medicine has helped tailor treatment decisions at an individual level, for instance in terms of surgical treatments or targeted therapies in advanced diseases.

The coexistence of parathyroid carcinoma and renal hyperparathyroidism is a rare phenomenon. Hence, we present a case of parathyroid carcinoma in a patient with tertiary hyperparathyroidism.

Glycans are an essential part of cells, playing a fundamental role in many pathophysiological processes such as cell differentiation, adhesion, motility, signal transduction, host-pathogen interactions, tumour cell invasion, and metastasis development. These glycans are also able to exert control over the changes in tumour immunogenicity, interfering with tumour-editing events and leading to immune-resistant cancer cells. The incomplete synthesis of -glycans or the formation of truncated glycans such as the Tn-antigen (Thomsen nouveau; GalNAcα- Ser/Thr), its sialylated version the STn-antigen (sialyl-Tn; Neu5Acα2-6GalNAcα-Ser/Thr) and the elongated T-antigen (Thomsen-Friedenreich; Galβ1-3GalNAcα-Ser/Thr) has been shown to be associated with tumour progression and metastatic state in many human cancers.

It has been suggested that reduced avidity of a PPGL on Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT could be a sign of not only altered metabolic activity, but also of increased biologic aggressiveness, possibly due to loss of SSTR-expression.
Design: Retrospective cohort review.
Introduction: While the performance of a thyroidectomy is generally associated with a low risk of injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN), the presence of a non-recurrent nerve (NRLN) increases the risk of this complication. Generally, the intraoperative detection via visual appreciation of variant anatomy of the RLN has been regarded as poor, possibly due to a lack of knowledge of both the normal and aberrant anatomy of the RLN.
Materials And Methods: Articles for the review were searched through PubMed using the search terms and their combinations: "non-recurrent laryngeal nerve," "thyroidectomy," "injury," "palsy," "variant anatomy," and "residency," from January 1, 2000, to December 2022.

Purpose: Value driven outcome (VDO) initiative is a value-based, patient-focused tool which utilizes a clinical outcome-based approach to optimize value of care based on clinically relevant quality indicators and costs required to achieve the care. In this study, we evaluate the impact of a VDO initiative on groin hernia repair, a commonly performed elective surgery in our hospital.
Methods: A VDO initiative was implemented in 2019 to encourage elective inguinal hernia repair to be performed at a day surgery setting.
