The increasing global demand for rare earth elements (REEs) presents significant mining and extraction challenges. Extraction of REEs from secondary resources such as mine tailings, electronic waste, and industrial by-products becomes an alternative solution. This study introduces an explainable artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to (i) predict the leaching efficiency rates and (ii) provide real-time explanations of the key extraction factors during the leaching process, while also recommending condition adjustments to optimize the leaching efficiency of REEs from secondary resources.

We present research on the role of multiple quantum well periods in extended short-wavelength infrared InGaAs/InAsPSb type-I LEDs. The fabricated LEDs consisted of 6, 15, and 30 quantum well periods, and we evaluated the structural properties and device performance through a combination of theoretical simulations and experimental characterization. The strain and energy band offset was precisely controlled by carefully adjusting the composition of the InAsPSb quaternary material, achieving high valence and conduction band offsets of 350 meV and 94 meV, respectively.

Fat embolism syndrome (FES) occurs when fat particles are aberrantly distributed into the microcirculation, and it often manifests as either hypoxemia, neurological deficit, or petechial rash. Although cases have been reported in the literature since the twentieth century, no formal diagnostic criteria have been universally adopted, and FES remains a diagnostic challenge. We present a unique case of FES from a long bone fracture, leading to pulmonary embolism with paradoxical arterial embolization and cerebral infarction, and provide a review of the related literature.

Thiosemicarbazide-modified cellulose (MTC) has been studied for removing heavy metals in the water source or for extracting some precious metals. The conditions of synthesis of MTC and Cu(II) removal were optimized by single-variable analysis through oxidation-reduction on titration and photometry. The results of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, and thermogravimetric analyses show that MTC exists in the thioketone form with a high surface area and heat durability.

Oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs) are widely distributed cells of ramified morphology in adult brain that express PDGFRα and NG2. They retain mitotic activities in adulthood and contribute to oligodendrogenesis and myelin turnover; however, the regulatory mechanisms of their cell dynamics in adult brain largely remain unknown. Thin film of amorphous tungsten-doped cobalt oxide (W:CoO) was successfully grown on a conducting electrode via an electrochemical oxidation process employing a [Co(WS ) ] deposition bath. The W:CoO catalyst displays an attractive performance for the oxygen evolution reaction in an alkaline solution. In an NaOH solution of pH 13, W:CoO operates with a moderate onset overpotential of 230 mV and requires 320 mV overpotential to generate a catalytic current density of 10 mA cm .

Background: Pattern-based approaches to relation extraction have shown very good results in many areas of biomedical text mining. However, defining the right set of patterns is difficult; approaches are either manual, incurring high cost, or automatic, often resulting in large sets of noisy patterns.
