- Serum YKL-40 is a potential biomarker for assessing the disease activity in polymyositis and dermatomyositis, which were previously unexplored areas for this biomarker.
- In a study with 99 patients, those affected by these conditions had higher levels of YKL-40 compared to healthy controls, and especially higher levels were found in patients with interstitial lung disease.
- The results indicate that serum YKL-40 correlates with several disease activity markers and can effectively help identify interstitial lung disease in affected patients.
Background: Previous studies indicated that both red blood cell distribution width (RDW) and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were useful indices in assessing the disease activity of autoimmune diseases. However, the evidence for the association between RDW, NLR and dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM) is limited. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between the disease activity of PM/DM and both RDW and NLR.
