The present work documents electrophilic substitution of azaarenes, mainly isoquinolines, with hypervalent iodine diazo reagents (HIDR) followed by formal [3+2]-dipolar cycloaddition in a tandem fashion. Other azaarenes pyridines and phenanthridines too could be successfully used in the reaction. The methodology capitalizes on the umpolung nature of α-aryliodonio diazo compounds for installing a nucleophile, azaarene, at their α-position.

Patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) are born with normal or near-normal kidneys that later develop cysts and prematurely lose function. Both renal cystic diseases appear to be mediated, at least in part, by disease-promoting extracellular vesicles (EVs) that induce genetically intact cells to participate in the renal disease process. We used centrifugation and size exclusion chromatography to isolate the EVs for study.

Borophene (B), with remarkably unique chemical binding in its crystallographic structural phases including anisotropic structures, theoretically has high Young's modulus and thermal conductivity. We assessed exposure to in-kitchen particulate matter (PM and PM) employing similar instrumentation in 60 low-income homes across 12 cities: Dhaka (Bangladesh); Chennai (India); Nanjing (China); Medellín (Colombia); São Paulo (Brazil); Cairo (Egypt); Sulaymaniyah (Iraq); Addis Ababa (Ethiopia); Akure (Nigeria); Blantyre (Malawi); Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania) and Nairobi (Kenya). Exposure profiles of kitchen occupants showed that fuel, kitchen volume, cooking type and ventilation were the most prominent factors affecting in-kitchen exposure.

During the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting lockdowns, road traffic volumes reduced significantly leading to reduced pollutant concentrations and noise levels. Noise and the air pollution data during the lockdown period and loosening of restrictions through five phases in 2021 are examined for a school site in the United Kingdom. Hourly and daily average noise level as well as the average over each phase, correlations between noise and air pollutants, variations between pollutants, and underlying reasons explaining the temporal variations are explored.

A facile solvothermal synthesis approach for chemical composition control in ternary Bi-S-I systems is reported by simply controlling the sulfide concentration. We demonstrate the application of these bismuth-based ternary mixed-anion compounds as high capacity anode materials in rechargeable batteries. Cells utilising BiSI achieved an initial capacity value of 807 mA h g, while those with BiSI/BiSI a value of 1087 mA h g in lithium-ion battery systems.

Introduction: This prospective clinical trial was designed to assess the effects of a long-term therapy with spironolactone, with and without dietary-induced weight-loss, on clinical features, lipid profile, and insulin levels in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Materials And Methods: Twenty-five patients (range of age 16-32 year; 13 lean and 12 overweight) fulfilling formal diagnostic criteria for PCOS (oligomenorrhea and/or amenorrhea, biochemical and/or clinical evidence of hyperadrogenism) were studied at baseline and then received oral spironolactone (100 mg/die) for 12 months; association with lifestyle modifications was recommended to all overweight patients. Clinical, endocrine, and metabolic parameters (oral glucose tolerance test [OGTT], lipid profile) were measured at baseline and at the end of the antiandrogen treatment.

TSC renal cystic disease is poorly understood and has no approved treatment. In a new principal cell-targeted murine model of cystic disease, the renal cystic epithelium is mostly composed of type A intercalated cells with an intact gene confirmed by sequencing, although these cells exhibit a -mutant disease phenotype. We used a newly derived targeted murine model in lineage tracing and extracellular vesicle (EV) characterization experiments and a cell culture model in EV characterization and cellular induction experiments to understand TSC cystogenesis.

Unlike state-of-the-art point-illumination-based biomedical imaging techniques, the sheet-based VFC technique is capable of single-shot sectional visualization, high throughput interrogation, real-time parameter estimation, and instant volume reconstruction with organelle-level resolution of live specimens.
