In the present study, different proteins, namely, bovine serum albumin (BSA), glucose oxidase (GOx) and the laboratory purified YqeH were immobilized in the phenolic resin precursor-based multi-scale web of activated carbon microfibers (ACFs) and carbon nanofibers (CNFs). These biomolecules are characteristically different from each other, having different structure, number of parent amino acid molecules and isoelectric point. CNF was grown on ACF substrate by chemical vapor deposition, using Ni nanoparticles (Nps) as the catalyst.

Aim: The aim of study was to study the side-effects of reserve line drugs developing in initial seven days of starting therapy, so as to weigh the need for admission for initiation of treatment against heavy economic burden by admission of huge number of MDR TB patients, and to identify the factors which may have an effect on the number of patients developing side-effects
Methods: All MDR TB patients (930) admitted during study period, who were initiated on Cat IV treatment for MDR TB under RNTCP were questioned daily for any side-effects throughout the day, during initial seven days of treatment.
Results: On day one, 342 (36.
Globally, vaccines have emerged as one of the most effective, safe, and cost-effective public health interventions, and are known to save 2-3 million lives, annually. However, despite various commendable efforts, a suitable human malaria vaccine is yet to see the light of the day. The lack of our complete understanding of the molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis and immune protection in malaria appears to be responsible for this state.

Methods: In our study PET-CT was done pre-operatively and six weeks postoperatively in 31 patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of acetabular fractures and fracture-dislocations. There were 26 male and five female patients who were treated in our institute between January 2009 and July 2010.
The study reports potential of Cuminum cyminum (cumin) seed essential oil (EO) as a plant based shelf life enhancer against fungal and aflatoxin contamination and lipid peroxidation. The EO showed efficacy as a preservative in food systems (stored wheat and chickpeas). A total of 1230 fungal isolates were obtained from food samples, with Aspergillus flavus LHP(C)-D6 identified as the highest aflatoxin producer.

Experiments were conducted to investigate (1) ovarian follicular growth, timing of ovulation and associated endocrine changes (progesterone, estrogen, and LH) in cycling, and (2) efficacy in terms of pregnancy rate in cycling and anestrus Murrah buffaloes subjected to the Estradoublesynch protocol (prostaglandin F2α [PGF2α] 0, GnRH 2, PGF2α 9, estradiol benzoate, EB 10). Twelve cycling buffaloes were subjected to the Estradoublesynch protocol and observed for ovulation, follicle size, and endocrine changes after EB treatment. Ovulation occurred in 12 of 12 buffaloes (100%) at 48.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA role for HflX in 50S-biogenesis was suggested based on its similarity to other GTPases involved in this process. It possesses a G-domain, flanked by uncharacterized N- and C-terminal domains. Intriguingly, Escherichia coli HflX was shown to hydrolyze both GTP and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and it was unclear whether G-domain alone would explain ATP hydrolysis too.

For biological validation of the EIA, blood samples were collected from the animals at 48 and 24 h before and 0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120, and 132 h after dexamethasone administration. The EIA was performed directly with 20 μL of fresh plasma (for free cortisol) and also with 20 μL of heat-treated plasma (for total cortisol) after 1:5 dilutions with PBS.

Our objectives were (1) to examine prolificacy potential in goats by using pituitary response to gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) challenge test, (2) to investigate hormonal profiles for the prediction of fetal number in pregnant goats and (3) to find out the most reliable timing of blood sampling for discriminating prolificacy trait and differentiating the goats bearing single, twin and triplet fetuses. In first experiment (GnRH challenge test), plasma FSH concentrations were significantly higher (P<0.

This study was conducted to record the ideal source and level of alkali treatment to treat jatropha meal (JM) and to determine the effect of inclusion of variously processed JM (pJM) on nutrient intake, digestibility, blood metabolites and hormonal status in goats. The JM was treated with 10 g/kg sodium chloride and 5 g/kg calcium hydroxide. The content of phorbol ester and hemagglutination (HA) activity of JM and pJM were assessed.

Uridyltransfer, one of the reactions it catalyzes, involves binding GlcNAc-1-P, UTP and Mg(2+) ions; however, whether one or two ions catalyze this reaction remains ambiguous. Here, we resolve this using biochemical and crystallographic studies on GlmU from Mycobacterium tuberculosis (GlmU(Mtb)) and identify a two-metal-ion mechanism (mechanism-B).

An experiment was conducted to determine the performance, antioxidation activity, and bone mineral content in Vanaraja chickens fed diet supplemented with organic trace minerals (oTM) at reduced levels. A total of 360 day-old chicks were selected and distributed randomly into 60 battery brooder pens. A maize-soybean meal-based control diet was supplemented with inorganic trace minerals (iTM), i.

An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of supplementing various concentrations (0, 100, 200, 300, or 400 μg/kg diet) of organic Se on growth performance, carcass traits, oxidative stress, and immune responses in commercial broiler chickens reared in open-sided poultry house under tropical climatic conditions. Each diet was fed ad libitum to eight replicates consisting of six birds in each pen from 1 to 42 d of age. Body weight gain and feed efficiency, and relative weight of liver, abdominal fat and ready to cook yields were not affected (p>0.

Homologs of RbgA are widely distributed in bacteria and eukaryotes and are implicated in ribosome assembly in the mitochondria, chloroplast and cytoplasm. Cells depleted of RbgA accumulate an immature large subunit that is missing key ribosomal proteins.

Until recently, the GTP hydrolysis mechanism, exemplified by Ras-family (and G-α) GTPases, was thought to be universal. This mechanism utilizes a conserved catalytic Gln supplied "in cis" from the GTPase and an arginine finger "in trans" from a GAP (GTPase activating protein) to stabilize the transition state.

Objective: Motor asymmetry in Parkinson's disease (PD) is evident clinically and on functional neuroimaging, but not reported in diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). We aim to determine if asymmetry in fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) can be detected in the substantia nigra (SN) of PD subjects.
Methods: DTI scans were performed on 11 PD and 12 healthy subjects.
