Background: Studies comparing percutaneous closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) with surgical ligation tend to exclude premature infants and have not assessed procedural charges. Anomalous origin of the left pulmonary artery (ALPA) from the aorta is a rare form of congenital heart disease, leading to long-term morbidity if not treated early. Background: Although interstage mortality for infants with hypoplastic left heart syndrome has declined within the National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative, variation across centres persists. It remains unclear whether centres with lower interstage mortality have lower-risk patients or whether differences in care may explain this variation. Barth syndrome (BTHS) is associated with myocardial disease, frequently left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy, which may necessitate cardiac transplantation or lead to death in some patients. We report a child with BTHS who had an "undulating cardiac phenotype" and ultimately developed decompensated heart failure requiring mechanical circulatory support with a ventricular assist device as a bridge to transplantation. His course was complicated by acute lung injury requiring placement of an in-line oxygenator to maintain end-organ function.

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence of vocal cord (VC) and swallowing dysfunction in infants after the Norwood operation and to examine the relationship between laryngopharyngeal dysfunction and postoperative outcomes.
