Obesity remains a significant global health concern, with limited pharmacological options that balance efficacy and safety. In this study, we identified lithospermic acid (LTS0059529) from Salvia miltiorrhiza as a potential dual inhibitor of pancreatic lipase (PL) and human carbonic anhydrase VA (hCA VA), two key enzymes in lipid metabolism. Using molecular docking and dynamics simulations, we observed that lithospermic acid interacts with Zn²⁺ in hCA VA via its benzofuran carboxylate moiety and forms stable complexes with PL through hydrogen bonding with ASP 205 and π-stacking interactions with PHE 77 and PHE 215.

The practical and easy detection of dopamine levels in human fluids, such as urine and saliva, is of great interest due to the correlation of dopamine concentration with several diseases. In this work, the one-step synthesis of water-soluble carbon nanoparticles (CNPs), starting from artichoke extract, containing catechol groups, for the fluorescence sensing of dopamine is reported. Honokiol is a natural bisphenol neolignan present in the bark of , whose extracts have been employed in oriental medicine to treat several disorders, showing a variety of biological properties, including antitumor activity, potentially related to radical scavenging. Inulin is considered a dietary fiber and represents a noteworthy ingredient for food biofortification due to its health effects and its neutral taste. The aim of the work was the evaluation of the quality of pasta produced using whole-meal flours of two ancient Sicilian landraces (Senatore Cappelli-CAP and Timilia-TIM) fortified with two types of inulin (long-chain topinambur inulin IT and low-chain chicory inulin IC), at two different levels of substitution (2 and 4%) to evaluate its possible effect on α-amylase inhibition. The color indices L* and a* were mainly influenced by cultivars, while IT improved the sensory attributes, mainly the elasticity sensation, and influenced less the other sensory attributes: adhesiveness, color, odor, taste, and Over Quality Score for both landraces.

Rapid and efficient analyses of copper ions are crucial to providing key information for Cu in living cells because of their biological importance. In this study, we reported one new turn-off fluorescent sensor for Cu with a benzo[,]xanthene core, which served as an efficient cation sensor for copper ion over a wide range of other cations (Na, K, Ag, Hg, Cd, Co, Ni, Zn, Mg, and Fe) owing to the catechol group in the aromatic core. The sensor showed selectivity for Cu over other ions; the log for Cu binding to compound had a value of 13.
