Background: Recent time-dependent analyses of stress-related disorders have identified heterogeneity of trajectories and their modifying factors. While psychiatric patients are vulnerable to stress events, it is unclear how psychiatric conditions in the general population modulate subsequent event-related distress trajectories.
Methods: Using a longitudinal online survey from before the COVID-19 pandemic to post-pandemic follow-ups (n = 3815 Japanese adults) and a latent growth mixture model, we identified four trajectories of pandemic-related stress symptoms: resilient, chronic, mild chronic, and early response.
To evaluate the safety of a rotating gantry with scanning beams of carbon-ion radiotherapy (C-ion RT) for choroidal malignant melanoma. A prospective study of C-ion RT using a rotating gantry with scanning beams for choroidal malignant melanoma was initiated at the National Institute for Quantum Science and Technology, QST Hospital in March 2018. The inclusion criteria were as follows: (i) clinically diagnosed ocular/choroidal malignant melanoma; (ii) tumor measurable by imaging tests; (iii) score of 0-2 on the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status scale and (iv) ability to provide consent for treatment.

However, recent studies have indicated that several disorders are linked to problems with reward/punishment sensitivity, and their results have been inconsistent. This lack of clinical specificity and robustness might reflect more general problems with traditionally diagnostic categories of psychiatry.

This study describes a novel AI solution that enables real-time fluorescence-like navigation (FLN) for robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with an initial focus on ureter, potentially enhancing outcomes and training efficacy. We established a new AI model using convolutional neural network (CNN) to achieve real-time intraoperative ureter recognition using 730 images from 17 RARC cases.

How the pandemic brought about a long-term impact on smartphone overuse is still unclear owing to mixed results of previous studies. This prospective study investigated whether levels of smartphone overuse increased over three years after the COVID-19 outbreak.

In December 2020, we introduced radiology nurse-led preoperative visits to patients undergoing TACE. This study aimed to examine QOL improvement following a preoperative visit.

Training data were created under the supervision of gastrointestinal surgeons. Test images and videos were randomly sampled and model performance was evaluated visually by 10 external gastrointestinal surgeons.

We report herein a case of lung adenocarcinoma who developed liver and brain metastases during adjuvant atezolizumab therapy. The patient underwent a craniotomy to resect a brain metastasis, which was pathologically diagnosed as SCLC.

With the spread of smartphones and computer games, concerns have escalated regarding the rising prevalence of gaming disorder. Patients often display attentional biases, unconsciously turning their attention towards gaming-related stimuli. However, attempts to discover and ameliorate these attentional deficits have yielded inconsistent outcomes, potentially due to the dynamic nature of attentional bias.

This study evaluated its accuracy in recognising the thoracic nerves during lung cancer surgery. Recognition models were created with deep learning using images precisely annotated for nerves.

Preserving and utilising nerves as critical guiding structures is paramount in rectal cancer surgery. Hence, we developed a deep learning model based on U-Net to automatically segment nerves.

This study aimed to find kinematic differences by surgical skill level. An AI algorithm was developed to identify X and Y coordinates of surgical instrument tips accurately from video.

Carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) is an emerging radiotherapy modality that has been shown to have a favorable anti-tumor effect, even for tumors resistant to conventional photon radiotherapy or chemotherapy. However, there is no report on CIRT outcomes for mesonephric adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix.

Therefore, this study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) system capable of identifying and highlighting the pancreas during robot-assisted gastrectomy.
Methods: A pancreas recognition algorithm was developed using HRNet, with 926 training images and 232 validation images extracted from 62 scenes of robot-assisted gastrectomy videos.

This preliminary study is the first to demonstrate that AI can precisely identify loose connective tissue during laparoscopic cholecystectomy and ICG fluorescent cholangiography. Tashiro and colleagues conclude that this novel real-time navigation modality fusing AI and ICG fluorescent imaging may enhance safety and provide more reliable laparoscopic or robotic surgery.

However, the origin of these crystal deposits has not yet been elucidated. We encountered a case of renal failure that progressed slowly owing to crystal-forming interstitial nephritis after long-term exposure to tosufloxacin.

However, little research has comprehensively examined their relationships with GD. Therefore, we examined the relationship between GD, in-game purchases, gaming duration via consoles and smartphones, and genres of smartphone games.

Background/aim: Laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) requires accurate visualization and appropriate handling of hepatic veins and the Glissonean pedicle that suddenly appear during liver dissection. Failure to recognize these structures can cause injury, resulting in severe bleeding and bile leakage. This study aimed to develop a novel artificial intelligence (AI) system that assists in the visual recognition and color presentation of tubular structures to correct the recognition gap among surgeons.

Tashiro and colleagues demonstrated for the first time that an artificial intelligence system can precisely identify intrahepatic vascular structures during laparoscopic liver resection in real time through color coding under bleeding and indocyanine green fluorescent imaging. The system supports real-time navigation and offers potentially safer laparoscopic or robotic liver surgery.
