In this work, we developed an environmentally friendly liquid-liquid microextraction method using a natural deep eutectic solvent in combination with liquid chromatography for the simultaneous determination of four mycotoxins (deoxynivalenol, alternariol, ochratoxin A and zearalenone) in edible vegetable oils. A chemometric approach assessed the effect of the operational parameters on the mycotoxin extraction efficiency. The extracts were analyzed by HPLC coupled with a diode array and fluorescence detector.

Sixty-nine Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and bifidobacteria were isolated and identified from Italian dairy products (raw milk, cream, butter, soft cheese and yoghurt) to find new antimicrobial compounds to use as food bio-preservatives. The development of a bioluminescent immunosensor is reported for the determination of zearalenone (ZEA) based on a peptide mimetic identified by phage display. We report a review of all the experimental and clinical studies performed in the last 60 years on the antiviral activity of inactivated Corynebacterium parvum (Cutibacterium acnes). This bacterium has been originally investigated and used for its oncolytic properties linked to immunomodulating activity, but the interest to successfully prevent and treat bacterial, fungal, and viral infections and lethality, uprising the innate immunity barriers produced many experimental models and very few clinical studies. Mycotoxins can be found as natural contaminants in many foods and feeds, and owing to their toxic effects, it is essential to detect them before they enter the food chain. An interesting approach for the analysis of mycotoxins by competitive immunoassays is the use of epitope-mimicking peptides, or mimotopes, which can replace the toxin conjugates traditionally used in such assays. Mimotopes can be selected from phage-displayed peptide libraries even without any prior knowledge of the antibody-antigen interaction, and after identifying the target specific clones, individual clones can be efficiently amplified in bacteria and used directly in the immunoassay.
