This AI-assisted review article offers a dual review: a book review of Living with Risk in the Late Roman World by Cam Grey, and a critical review of the current potential of large language models (LLMs), specifically ChatGPT's DeepResearch mode, to assist in thoughtful and scholarly book reviewing within risk science. Grey's book presents an innovative reconstruction of how communities in the late Roman Empire perceived and adapted to chronic environmental and societal risks, emphasizing spatial variability, cultural interpretation, and the normalization of uncertainty. Drawing on commentary from a human reviewer and a parallel AI-assisted analysis, we compare the distinct strengths and limitations of each approach.

Purpose Of Review: Maintaining hemostasis in pediatric patients undergoing major surgery presents unique challenges for the anesthesiologist. This review presents the most recent updates on pediatric perioperative bleeding and hemostasis management.
Recent Findings: Patient blood management (PBM) programs remain scarcely implemented, but recent evidence for restrictive transfusion thresholds and reduction in allogeneic blood products in the pediatric population is growing.
This tutorial focuses on opportunities and challenges associated with using six large, publicly accessible spatial databases published during the last decade by US federal agencies. These databases provide opportunities for researchers to risk-inform policy by comparing community asset, demographic, economic, and social data, along with anthropogenic and natural hazard data at multiple geographic scales. The opportunities for data analysis come with challenges, including data accuracy, variations in the shape and size of data cells, spatial autocorrelation, and other issues endemic to spatial datasets.

Areas immediately adjacent to 16 of the first US national priority (NPL) hazardous waste sites that also had pre-superfund emergency actions were examined to measure local stigma. Four decades after their NPL designation, I found marked variation in these areas' social, public health and environmental attributes. About one-third of these small areas fit the stereotype of stressed areas with environmental injustice challenges.
