Background: Despite being generally considered healthy, adolescence is a crucial period where health behaviours are established, which can impact future well-being. Factors such as social determinants, psychosocial variables, and risk behaviours play significant roles in determining general and mental health, with important gender differences. This article aims to study social inequalities in the prevalence of mental distress and poor self-perceived health of 14 to 18-year-old students schooled in Central Catalonia and Barcelona in the 2021-2022 academic year, separately for boys and girls.

Introduction: The objective of this study is to estimate the frequency and characteristics of health warning labeling on alcoholic beverages in Spain.
Study Design: Cross-sectional study conducted in Madrid, Spain, between March and April 2023.
Methods: A convenience sample was designed by selecting four supermarket chains with a 40 % share of food distribution and two specialized alcohol stores.
Objective: To estimate the prevalence of sexual violence among Catalan adolescents and its associated factors, as well as examining the relationship between experiencing sexual violence and low mood and risky substance use.
Method: Cross-sectional study conducted with 5900 adolescents (53.2% girls).
Background There is a co-occurrence of adolescents' substance use and sexual practices, with an important impact on their health and health behaviours; however, limited research is conducted with adolescents. View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: The aim of the present study was to estimate the evolution of binge drinking since the pre-pandemic period, and throughout the pandemic period with the application and lifting of the restrictions in adolescents aged 12 to 19 years old in school in Central Catalonia.
Methodology: Quasi-experimental time series study with two samples of adolescents. The first sample (1st wave of survey, pre-pandemic period) was obtained between the months of September 2019 to March 2020 (n = 6621) and the second sample (2nd wave of survey, pandemic period) between the months of October 2021 and March 2022 (n = 7576).

The DESKcohort survey is administered biannually between the months of October and June, and the project has been running for three years. Background: This study attempts to provide a picture of the hesitancy to vaccination against COVID-19 in Spain during the 2021 spring-autumn vaccination campaign, both in the general population and in healthcare professionals.
Methods: The participants were recruited using social media such as Facebook and Twitter, in addition to the cooperation of health personnel contacted with the collaboration of medical scientific societies. A cross-sectional study was carried out that included the response of an online questionnaire.
Planetary Health has emerged as a new approach to respond to the existential risks that the clime and global environmental crises pose to human societies. As stated by various stakeholders, the challenges involved in Planetary Health are of such magnitude that education must be at the forefront to obtain a meaningful response. Universities and higher education institutions have been specifically called to embed the concept of planetary stewardship in all curricula and train the next generation of researchers and change makers as a matter of urgency.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between physical activity and the incidence of dementia in a cohort of people aged 50 years or older without dementia from different countries in Europe between the years 2013 and 2015.
Methods: Prospective longitudinal design study (2013-2015) with a sample of 46,141 people without dementia in 2013 who participated in the SHARE project in waves 5 and 6, where 15 European countries participated. We defined dementia as a self-report of Alzheimer's disease, organic brain syndrome, senility, or any other serious memory impairment during follow-up.
This study aimed to describe the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the social situation, self-perceived health status, and mental well-being of adolescents in Catalonia during home confinement, and to evaluate factors that are associated with poor overall mental well-being. An online cross-sectional study among a cohort of students (14-18 years old) of central Catalonia (DESKcohort) was performed during June-July 2020. Poisson regression models with robust variance were used to identify variables associated with "poor overall well-being," measured by the short version of the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale.

The aim of this study was to identify changes in the hazardous consumption of alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis, due to the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 in a cohort of schooled adolescents from Central Catalonia. We also analyzed the effect of the individual and social factors on risky consumption during confinement.
