Objectives: An isotope dilution-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (ID-LC-MS/MS)-based candidate reference measurement procedure (RMP) was developed and validated to accurately measure serum and plasma concentrations of total and free phenytoin.

Methods: Quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (qNMR) was used to determine the absolute content of the reference material, ensuring its traceability to SI units. The separation of phenytoin from potential unknown interferences was achieved with reversed-phase chromatography, utilizing a C8 column.

We present a study on the excitation of individual vibrational modes with ballistic charge carriers propagating along the Cu(110) surface. By means of the molecular nanoprobe technique, where the reversible switching of a molecule-in this case tautomerization of porphycene-is utilized to detect excitation events, we reveal anisotropic coupling of two distinct vibrational modes to the substrate. The N-H bending mode, excited below || ≈ 376 meV, exhibits maxima perpendicular to the rows of the Cu(110) substrate and minima along the rows.

Inspired by the modelization of 2D materials systems, we characterize arrangements of identical nonflat squares in 3D. We prove that the fine geometry of such arrangements is completely characterized in terms of patterns of mutual orientations of the squares and that these patterns are periodic and one-dimensional. In contrast to the flat case, the nonflatness of the tiles gives rise to nontrivial geometries, with configurations bending, wrinkling, or even rolling up in one direction.
