Background: Severe bleeding remains a leading cause of death in patients with major trauma, despite improvements in care during the acute phase, especially the application of damage control concepts. Death from hemorrhage occurs rapidly after the initial trauma, in most cases before the patient has had a chance to reach a hospital. Thus, the development of adjuvant drugs that would increase the survival of injured patients is necessary.

In intensive care units, COVID-19 viral pneumonia patients (VPP) present symptoms similar to those of other patients with Nonviral infection (NV-ICU). Introduction: Hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar state (HHS) is a known complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus; however, carbonated carbohydrate fluid intake may precipitate a more severe presentation of type 1 diabetes mellitus with hyperosmolar state. The management of these patients is not easy and can lead to severe complications such as cerebral venous thrombosis.

Methods: We present the case of a 21-month-old boy admitted for consciousness disorders revealing a hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar state on a new-onset type 1 diabetes and who developed cerebral venous thrombosis.

Adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapies are highly promising, such as the onasemnogene abeparvovec (Zolgensma) in spinal muscle atrophy (SMA). We report the first case of fatal systemic thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) following onasemnogene abeparvovec in a 6-month-old child with SMA type 1, carrying a potential genetic predisposition in the complement factor I gene. Other cases of TMA have recently been reported after onasemnogene abeparvovec and after AAV9 minidystrophin therapy in Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The authors describe the role of junior medical students in recruitment at the University of Ottawa, aiming to increase the Franco-Ontarian applicant pool for the French-language medical program. The students have designed workshops reflecting their study program and offered them, since 1997, to 719 Ontario French-language high school students and to 291 francophone undergraduate university students.
