Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the outcomes of patients with left-sided infective endocarditis (IE) and noninfected cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) undergoing cardiac surgery, with a focus on whether the CIED was removed.
Methods: Retrospective analysis based on the Clinical Multicenter Project for Analysis of Infective Endocarditis in Germany Registry, comprising patients with left-sided IE who underwent valve surgery between 1994 and 2018 in 6 German centers. Two treatment strategies were compared: CIED extraction versus no extraction.

Liver tumor resection remains the mainstay of treatment for patients with primary and secondary hepatic malignancies and can potentially be a curative option. With advances in surgical techniques, systemic therapies, and perioperative management, resectability criteria have expanded over time yet operative planning must still be carefully weighed between oncologic benefit and surgical risks along with residual liver function. While tumor detection is critical, radiologists also have an essential role in assessing tumor resectability, evaluating background liver disease, identifying surgically relevant vascular and biliary anatomy, and estimating future liver remnant adequacy.

Objectives: To date, there are no standardized treatment algorithms or recommendations for patients with infective endocarditis (IE) and concomitant spondylodiscitis (SD). Therefore, our aim was to analyse whether the sequence of surgical treatment of IE and SD has an impact on postoperative outcome and to identify risk factors for survival and postoperative recurrence.
Methods: Patients with IE underwent surgery in 4 German university hospitals between 1994 and 2022.
Background: Antithrombotic therapy (ATT) in patients with infective endocarditis (IE) is challenging.
Objectives: The authors evaluated the impact of anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy on clinical endpoints in IE patients.
Methods: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing IE patients with prior and/or ongoing use of ATT vs those without any ATT during IE course.
Background: Complete removal of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) is recommended in patients with CIED infections, including both systemic and localized pocket infection. The aim of the study was to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive assessment of evidence relating to the effect of complete CIED extraction in patients with a CIED infection.
Methods: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies reporting short- and mid-term outcomes in patients who had a device infection or infective endocarditis (IE) and underwent complete removal of the cardiac device (generator and leads) compared to those who received conservative therapy (no removal, partial removal, local antibiotic infiltration or isolated antibiotic therapy).
