Objective: The increasing prevalence of chronic wounds, particularly venous leg ulcers (VLUs) and diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), presents significant clinical and economic challenges within the National Health Service in the UK. This study was designed to evaluate the financial impact of replacing the standard of care (SoC), two-dressing regimen with a single silicone foam dressing with 3DFit Technology, Biatain Silicone (Coloplast, UK), in the treatment of these wounds in the community setting in the UK.

Method: A budget impact model was developed to estimate the potential cost savings of a progressive transition from SoC to the single silicone foam dressing with 3DFit Technology over a five-year horizon.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and combinatorial optimization drive applications across science and industry, but their increasing energy demands challenge the sustainability of digital computing. Most unconventional computing systems target either AI or optimization workloads and rely on frequent, energy-intensive digital conversions, limiting efficiency. These systems also face application-hardware mismatches, whether handling memory-bottlenecked neural models, mapping real-world optimization problems or contending with inherent analog noise.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by cognitive decline, but the individual progression rates vary. One type of blood-based biomarker that has been widely investigated is neurofilament light chain (NfL), as it reflects measures neuronal damage.

Aim: The aim of the current study was to investigate whether NfL could determine the rate of progression in patients with AD.

In this study, we develop and present an open-access LC-electrospray-HRMS/MS forward in silico fragmentation spectral library, based on the NORMAN Suspect List Exchange containing 120,514 chemicals, that can be used for level 3 annotations to support elucidation of the dark molecular features detected in environmental, exposomic, food safety, and forensic investigations. Using these forward generated in silico spectral libraries, several pollutants previously unreported in non-targeted workflows were discovered in groundwater for the first time through retrospective non-targeted screening analysis. Among these are xenobiotics such as hexafluoroacetone, hexazinone metabolites A, B, and C, and transformation products of triflusulfuron, fluazifop-butyl, triallate, and propiconazole.

Background: Antibiotic treatment of piglets after birth is commonly carried out due to concern for development of omphalitis leading to umbilical outpouchings and/or systemic infections. Among others, the portal of entry for bacterial infections includes the umbilical cord at birth. The aim was to characterise the histological and bacteriological pattern of manifestations in the umbilicus of piglets with omphalitis that died during the suckling period in a Danish herd.
