A 14-year-old West Highland White terrier dog developed multiple raised plaques that were confined to the concave surface of the right pinna. Histology allowed a diagnosis of viral plaque, although the lesions contained some unusual microscopic features. A papillomaviral (PV) DNA sequence was amplified from the plaque using consensus PCR primers.

Background: Freezing all embryos, followed by thawing and transferring them into the uterine cavity at a later stage (freeze-all), instead of fresh-embryo transfer may lead to improved pregnancy rates and fewer complications during in vitro fertilisation and pregnancies resulting from it.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate if a policy of freeze-all results in a higher healthy baby rate than the current policy of transferring fresh embryos.

Design: This was a pragmatic, multicentre, two-arm, parallel-group, non-blinded, randomised controlled trial.

Prompt services and work-focused support systems are needed to aid cancer survivors returning to work or finding work. Purpose This knowledge translation and implementation project focused on the knowledge users' experience and need for refinement of three work-focused tools to support return to work and maintain work following cancer through their participation in a hands-on workshop. The tools assessed for their utility are a Job Analysis Tool (JAT), a Return to Work (RTW) tool, and a bilingual Canadian website on Cancer and Work.

Article Synopsis
  • - A study assessed thyroid dysfunction in asymptomatic women aged 16 to 41 who have experienced miscarriage or subfertility while trying to conceive, involving nearly 20,000 participants across UK hospitals from 2011 to 2016.
  • - The study found that 4.8% of women had abnormal thyroid function, with 0.2% having overt hypothyroidism and 0.3% overt hyperthyroidism; notable rates of subclinical hypothyroidism increased significantly when TSH levels were defined more strictly.
  • - Factors linked to higher rates of thyroid dysfunction included a BMI of 35.0 kg/m² or higher, Asian ethnicity, and a history of subfertility, while 9.5%

Background: Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with an increased risk of abnormal pregnancy implantation leading to obstetric complications such as pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction. However, the effect of vitamin D on reproductive treatment outcomes in couples undergoing assisted reproductive treatment is poorly understood. This study investigates the association between vitamin D and reproductive treatment outcomes in women undergoing assisted reproductive treatments?

Methods: A prospective cohort study conducted at a large tertiary teaching hospital, United Kingdom.

Background: Thyroid peroxidase antibodies are associated with an increased risk of miscarriage and preterm birth, even when thyroid function is normal. Small trials indicate that the use of levothyroxine could reduce the incidence of such adverse outcomes.

Methods: We conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to investigate whether levothyroxine treatment would increase live-birth rates among euthyroid women who had thyroid peroxidase antibodies and a history of miscarriage or infertility.

Objective: Bullying and its potential consequence for poor mental health constitutes a public health concern, yet there is a dearth of longitudinal studies examining the topic. This study examines the temporal relationship between childhood bullying behaviours (being a victim, being a bully, or being a bully and a victim) and physician-diagnosed internalizing disorders over a 7-year timespan.

Methods: Data from the 2003 Children's Lifestyle and School performance Study (CLASS), a population-based health survey of grade 5 students in Nova Scotia, Canada were linked to administrative health-care records to examine the relationship between bullying behaviours and services where a physician diagnosis of an internalizing disorder (ID) was received.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) colonisation of plant roots is one of the most ancient and widespread interactions in ecology, yet the systemic consequences for plant secondary chemistry remain unclear. We performed the first metabolomic investigation into the impact of AMF colonisation by Rhizophagus irregularis on the chemical defences, spanning above- and below-ground tissues, in its host-plant ragwort (Senecio jacobaea). We used a non-targeted metabolomics approach to profile, and where possible identify, compounds induced by AMF colonisation in both roots and shoots.

Voiding difficulties are more common in the elderly. This occurs because of physiological changes such as replacement of muscle fibres with collagen, from life effect insults such as the effects of childbirth, lead to a reduction in contractility and changes in the nerve supply from cholinergic to NANC fibres lead to a change in sensation leading to a delay in first sensation. Symptoms are often similar to those of overactive bladder and the history in older women should include those of hesitancy and poor flow.
