Invasive gastric candidiasis is a rare fungal infection of the stomach, often arising in the setting of immunosuppression, critical illness, mucosal barrier disruption, gut microbial alterations, or antibiotic use. Though are normal flora within the gastrointestinal tract, compromised host defenses can contribute to overgrowth and invasion of the fungal species into deeper tissues. We report a case of an 89-year-old man presenting with concurrent upper gastrointestinal bleeding from diffuse gastric ulcers secondary to invasive gastric candidiasis and diarrhea resulting from colitis.

The asymmetric synthesis of either enantiomer of β-butadienyl amines from a single starting material is described. Reversal of the diastereoselectivity is achieved by simply tuning the reaction conditions. This methodology provides excellent yields (up to 98%) and high diastereomeric ratios ( up to 98:2) and exhibits a broad substrate scope.

BACKGROUND Smoking is the single largest and most critical public health issue in the world, if smoking is initiated early in life, it can have long-term consequences. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of cigarette smoking in 568 adolescent male high school students in southern Saudi Arabia and their susceptibility to smoking using the Expanded Susceptibility to Smoking Index (ESSI), the short version of the UPPS-P Impulsive Behavior Scale (UPPS-P), and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS).
