Introduction: Cannabis as a therapeutic agent is accessible to a growing number of people, though research suggests that many medical cannabis (MC) users undertake their cannabinoid therapy independently, without collaborating with a cannabis clinician or informing their primary care provider (PCP). The effects of medical collaboration or disclosure to PCP on outcomes of cannabinoid therapy are unknown. Researchers anticipate that those who collaborate with a cannabis clinician or disclose their medical cannabis use to their PCP will find MC to be more effective, use less delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and more cannabidiol (CBD), and experience fewer side effects.

Importance: Artificial intelligence (AI) large language models (LLMs) demonstrate potential in simulating human-like dialogue. Their efficacy in accurate patient-clinician communication within radiation oncology has yet to be explored.

Objective: To determine an LLM's quality of responses to radiation oncology patient care questions using both domain-specific expertise and domain-agnostic metrics.

Article Synopsis
  • * It followed 159 patients for 2 years post-TKA surgery and categorized them based on their femora tibia angles into three alignment groups: varus, neutral, and valgus.
  • * Results showed that while patients with varus alignment had lower pre-op knee scores, HTO alignment did not significantly impact post-op knee function, range of motion, or the time from HTO to TKA.

Article Synopsis
  • A 65-year-old male suffered an intradural disc herniation and a C5-6 unilateral facet dislocation after falling into a drain, leading to significant spinal cord injury but intact sensation.
  • Pre-operative MRI did not clearly show the intradural disc herniation, complicating diagnosis and treatment.
  • The surgical approach involved closed reduction followed by a combined anterior and posterior procedure, where a dural tear was found but not repaired, leading to the use of a drain, and the patient eventually regained muscle power through rehabilitation.

  • The LiGHT program is a new virtual initiative aimed at helping manage child obesity by integrating health, environmental, and economic education through a mixed methods process evaluation involving three groups of child-parent units.
  • Feedback from participants indicated that they found the online delivery of the program convenient and appreciated the family involvement, although concerns were raised about the visual appeal and privacy of personal information.
  • The program is seen as a valuable resource for weight management, and further evaluation will focus on its effectiveness in Phase 2 of the project.

While efforts are underway to expand latrine coverage to an estimated 2.6 billion people who lack access to improved sanitation, there is evidence that actual use of latrines is suboptimal, limiting the potential health and environmental gains from containment of human excreta. We developed a passive latrine use monitor (PLUM) and compared its ability to measure latrine activity with structured observation.
