We present a case of disseminated aspergillosis diagnosed by choroid plexus biopsy in an immunocompeten 69-year-old male with decreased consciousness and a fever for more than three months. Brain magnetic resonance imaging showed ventriculitis and phlegmon in the paravertebral space. Chest computerized tomography revealed an air-crescent lesion in the upper lobe of the left lung.

Background: Group B (GBS) is one of the leading causes of neonatal early-onset sepsis, resulting in high mortality and significant comorbidity. The intestinal area is composed of diverse cell types that harmonize gut homeostasis, which is influenced by both endogenous and exogenous factors. Notably, the environment of the intestine is exposed to several types of mechanical forces, including shear stress generated by fluid flow, compression and stretch generated by luminal contents and peristaltic waves of the intestine, and stiffness attributed to the extracellular matrix. These forces play critical roles in the regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration.

This study investigated the therapeutic effects of exosomes derived from human-induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived retinal organoids (ROs) on corneal epithelial wound healing. Exosomes were isolated from the culture medium of the hiPSC-derived ROs (Exo-ROs) using ultracentrifugation, and then they were characterized by a nanoparticle tracking analysis and transmission electron microscopy. In a murine model of corneal epithelial wounds, these exosomes were topically applied to evaluate their healing efficacy.

We aimed to identify the risk factors for impaired cellular and humoral immunity after three doses of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Unlabelled: With the introduction of ceftazidime-avibactam worldwide, the antimicrobial activity of new β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitors (BL/BLIs) needs to be investigated. In this study, we describe an Enterobacter ludwigii clinical isolate that is resistant to both carbapenems and colistin in South Korea. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing revealed that E. ludwigii CRE2104-31 was non-susceptible to all tested antibiotics except fosfomycin.

This manuscript describes an occurrence of false-positive GM tests in patients receiving TPN products from a manufacturer who had recently changed the supplier of the glucose component. We describe the clinical presentation of nine false-positive cases and the results of serologic and microbiological investigations of the TPN products suspected of contamination with GM. Attempts to detect GM in parenteral nutrition products were made since the detection of GM in sodium gluconate-containing solutions in 2007, but none of them identified the source of elevated GM indexes in TPN products.

Flavanones in peel (CUP) have been used as therapeutic agents to reduce intestinal inflammation; however, the anti-inflammatory effects of their biometabolites remain ambiguous. Here, we identified aglycone-type flavanones, such as hesperetin and naringenin, which were more abundant in the bioconversion of the CUP than in the ethanol extracts of the CUP. We found that the bioconversion of the CUP induced the canonical nuclear factor-κB pathway via degradation of IκB in Caco-2 cells.
