A retrospective study of the effect of papaverine on perioperative efficacy of microvascular decompression in the treatment of hemifacial spasm.

Objective: Retrospective analysis was conducted to evaluate the differences in intraoperative electrophysiological changes and postoperative efficacy of microvascular decompression(MVD) for hemifacial spasm.

Methods: Cases of hemifacial spasm treated by MVD at the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University over the past three years were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into two groups: the papaverine group, which received papaverine treatment intraoperatively and postoperatively, and the control group, which did not receive papaverine.
