Co-rotating, counter, and contra-rotating Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs) offer higher power yields than singular turbines due to synergetic interactions, making them ideal for rooftop applications. This study focuses on enhancing the efficiency of a Contra-Rotating VAWT (CR-VAWT) using a ducted airborne configuration. A wind gathering device (WGD), optimized via the Taguchi method, is integrated around the CR-VAWT, which is elevated using an oblate spheroid aerostat designed through a force-weight approach.

Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a form of large vessel vasculitis that may lead to fibrosis, stenosis, or aneurysm formation of vessels. Its presentation varies depending on the arterial beds involved. We report 3 cases out of around 150 cases of TA with rare initial presentations of brachial plexopathy caused by an axillary artery aneurysm, complicated type A intramural hematoma, and renal artery aneurysms along with abdominothoracic TA presenting as a pulsatile abdominal mass.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzes the rising cancer incidence in India, focusing on breast and cervical cancer screening rates among women aged 30-49 using data from the National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5).
  • Results show very low screening rates (0.9% for breast cancer and 1.9% for cervical cancer), with poorer socioeconomic groups less likely to participate in screenings, suggesting financial barriers.
  • Enhanced cancer awareness through visual media significantly increases the likelihood of women getting screened, indicating a need for targeted health education and outreach to improve participation rates, especially among disadvantaged populations.

Haemoptysis, a rare but serious complication that can arise in patients with congenital heart disease, necessitates prompt diagnosis and specialized care. The radiologist plays a critical role in this scenario, including identifying the source of haemoptysis, devising treatment plans, and delivering endovascular interventions. This article highlights the importance of imaging techniques, especially computed tomography, in identifying the cause of haemoptysis and the therapeutic value of endovascular interventions.

Background: Arteriovenous fistulas involving the anterior abdominal wall can result from trauma. Such fistulas may remain asymptomatic and undetected for a prolonged duration of time. They tend to recruit multiple arterial feeders with remodelling in the feeding arteries, making them challenging to treat.

Objective: The study aimed to assess the socio-demographic and other correlates of cessation behavior across tobacco products among the adult population in India.

Methods: We used data of adults (aged ≥15 years) who were current or former tobacco users (smoking and/or smokeless tobacco) from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) India, conducted during 2016-17. The detailed analysis was done for current daily smokers (N=7,647), former daily smokers (N=1,353), and current daily smokeless tobacco users (N=1,2721).

Insect RoboFlyers are interesting and active focuses of study but producing high-quality flapping robots that replicate insect flight is challenging., due to the dual requirement of both a sophisticated transmission mechanism with light weight and minimal intervening connections. This innovative mechanism was created to address the need for a producible structure that is small in size, small in mass, and has reduced design linkages.

The role of neurogenic inflammation in various systemic diseases has been well established, but there is a dearth of studies and evidence regarding its role in periodontitis. This study aimed to systematically review the evidence in establishing the role of neurogenic inflammation in chronic periodontitis. Databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar were reviewed.

Objectives. Limited information is available on adolescent tobacco and alcohol use in rural Kerala, the southernmost state in India. The study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of tobacco and alcohol use among adolescent school students and further to understand the extent of knowledge pertaining to tobacco before and after conducting awareness programmes in schools.

Background: Prevalence of tobacco use is higher in the rural than urban areas of India. Unlike tobacco cessation clinics located in urban areas, community-based smoking cessation intervention has the potential to reach a wider section of the community to assist in smoking cessation in the rural setting. The present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a cessation intervention in rural Kerala state, India.

Laser-induced autofluorescence (LIAF) and diffuse reflection spectroscopy (DRS) are two emerging noninvasive optical tools that have shown immense potential to detect oral cavity pre-cancer. In a recent study, we have used spectral ratio reference standards (SRRS) of LIAF intensity ratios F500/F635, F500/F685, and F500/F705 for grading of tissues belonging to sites other than dorsal side of tongue (DST), lateral side of tongue (LST), and vermillion border of lip (VBL) that exhibited similar spectral shape for normal and abnormal tissues. This led to dismal diagnostic accuracies, and for the three LIAF-SRRS, normal tissue values were often misclassified as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), which means that the true negatives were being wrongly identified as true positives.
