Rationale And Objectives: To evaluate the performance, stability, and decision-making behavior of large language models (LLMs) for title and abstract screening for radiology systematic reviews, with attention to prompt framing, confidence calibration, and model robustness under disagreement.
Materials And Methods: We compared five LLMs (GPT-4o, GPT-4o mini, Gemini 1.5 Pro, Gemini 2.
Haemodialysis facilities have a large environmental impact due to high energy, water and consumable usage by haemodialysis equipment. As climate change and natural resource scarcity escalate, all the while the number of people requiring dialysis increases, there is an urgent need for dialysis facilities that meet care needs while minimising environmental impact. To address this, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology engaged an environmental sustainability consulting practise to develop a best practise guide for the environmentally sustainable design and operation of haemodialysis facilities.

Background: Mild traumatic brain injury is theorized to cause widespread functional changes to the brain. Resting-state fMRI may be able to measure functional connectivity changes after traumatic brain injury, but resting-state fMRI studies are heterogeneous, using numerous techniques to study ROIs across various resting-state networks.
Purpose: We systematically reviewed the literature to ascertain whether adult patients who have experienced mild traumatic brain injury show consistent functional connectivity changes on resting-state -fMRI, compared with healthy patients.
Adult intussusception is much rarer than pediatric intussusception and usually occurs secondary to a pathological lead point, most frequently neoplasm. Terminal ileum lipomas are an infrequent cause of adult ileocolic intussusception but can be seen together with the intussusception on initial imaging evaluation, which can guide appropriate diagnosis and management. We describe a case of a 42-year-old man presenting with 12 hours of severe right lower quadrant pain.

To determine whether chemical analysis of 4 athletic shoes, previously reported to be free of the most common contact allergens, contain quantifiable allergen levels.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLarge language models (LLMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities, but the bar for clinical applications is high. Attempts to assess the clinical knowledge of models typically rely on automated evaluations based on limited benchmarks. Here, to address these limitations, we present MultiMedQA, a benchmark combining six existing medical question answering datasets spanning professional medicine, research and consumer queries and a new dataset of medical questions searched online, HealthSearchQA.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate patient-specific, lesion-related, and technical factors that potentially influence diagnostic yield of computed tomography (CT)-guided biopsies of bone lesions.
Methods: Computed tomography-guided bone lesion biopsies performed over a 2-year period were retrospectively reviewed, including image review and electronic medical records for pathology reports and clinical follow-up. Lesions were tabulated by prebiopsy CT and magnetic resonance imaging features.

Objective: Raise awareness of gadolinium encephalopathy, a rare cause of neurological symptoms.
Setting: An L5-S1 interlaminar epidural steroid injection (IL-ESI) was performed with a gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) due to the patient's history of allergic reaction to iodine-based contrast agents.
Discussion: Several hours after administration of GBCA, the patient had nausea and vomiting with altered mental status.
To evaluate the use of a multitarget platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection approach for the treatment of chronic low back pain (LBP). Forty-six patients with more than 12 weeks of LBP who failed conservative treatments were injected with PRP into the facet joints, intervertebral discs, epidural space and/or paravertebral muscles. Visual analog pain scale and Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire scores were measured at baseline and predefined intervals.

Substantial variation has been observed in pathologists' classification of colorectal polyps, and improved assessment by pathologists may be associated with reduced subsequent underuse and overuse of colonoscopy.
Objective: To compare standard microscopic assessment with an artificial intelligence (AI)-augmented digital system that annotates regions of interest within digitized polyp tissue and predicts polyp type using a deep learning model to assist pathologists in colorectal polyp classification.

Allergen avoidance is the most effective treatment of contact allergy. Patient improvement ultimately relies on identification of safe alternative products, which can be used by the patient. Safe personal care product options typically can be found using ingredient database programs.

Materials And Methods: This single-institution retrospective study included 22 patients (12 men; median age, 65 y ± 11) with unresectable hepatic metastases and preserved functional status (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0/1) who received immunotherapy and radioembolization within a 15-month period (median, 63.5 d; interquartile range, 19.
Background: Chronic kidney disease of non-traditional origin (CKDnt) is common among Mesoamerican sugarcane workers. Recurrent heat stress and dehydration is a leading hypothesis. Evidence indicate a key role of inflammation.

Identifying patient characteristics that influence the rate of colorectal polyp recurrence can provide important insights into which patients are at higher risk for recurrence. We used natural language processing to extract polyp morphological characteristics from 953 polyp-presenting patients' electronic medical records. We used subsequent colonoscopy reports to examine how the time to polyp recurrence (731 patients experienced recurrence) is influenced by these characteristics as well as anthropometric features using Kaplan-Meier curves, Cox proportional hazards modeling, and random survival forest models.

An accurate and automated algorithm for the classification of colorectal polyps on digitized histopathologic slides could benefit practitioners and patients.

We present an image translation approach to generate augmented data for mitigating data imbalances in a dataset of histopathology images of colorectal polyps, adenomatous tumors that can lead to colorectal cancer if left untreated. By applying cycle-consistent generative adversarial networks (CycleGANs) to a source domain of normal colonic mucosa images, we generate synthetic colorectal polyp images that belong to diagnostically less common polyp classes. Generated images maintain the general structure of their source image but exhibit adenomatous features that can be enhanced with our proposed filtration module, called Path-Rank-Filter.

These approaches, however, require a laborious annotation process and are fragmented.
Objective: To evaluate a novel deep learning method that uses tissue-level annotations for high-resolution histological image analysis for Barrett esophagus (BE) and esophageal adenocarcinoma detection.
Purpose: To investigate the safety of yttrium-90 radioembolization in combination with checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Materials And Methods: This single-center retrospective study included 26 consecutive patients with HCC who received checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy within 90 days of radioembolization from April 2015 to May 2018. Patients had preserved liver function (Child-Pugh scores A-B7) and either advanced HCC due to macrovascular invasion or limited extrahepatic disease (21 patients) or aggressive intermediate stage HCC that resulted in earlier incorporation of systemic immunotherapy (5 patients).

Context: Celiac disease (CD) prevalence and diagnosis have increased substantially in recent years. The current gold standard for CD confirmation is visual examination of duodenal mucosal biopsies. An accurate computer-aided biopsy analysis system using deep learning can help pathologists diagnose CD more efficiently.

Background: The Paris System for Urine Cytopathology (the Paris System) has succeeded in making the analysis of liquid-based urine preparations more reproducible. Any algorithm seeking to automate this system must accurately estimate the nuclear-to-cytoplasmic (N:C) ratio and produce a qualitative "atypia score." The authors propose a hybrid deep-learning and morphometric model that reliably automates the Paris System.
