Calcium Sulfide Nanoclusters Trigger DNA Damage and Induce Cell Cycle Arrest in Non-Small-Cell Lung Adenocarcinoma Cells.

Lung cancer remains the most common malignancy independent of sex. Here, we focused on unraveling the molecular mechanisms of CaS nanoclusters inducing cytotoxicity by investigating DNA damage, the cell cycle, oxidative stress, and cellular repair mechanisms in non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) cells compared to healthy lung fibroblasts. Our previous studies have demonstrated the therapeutic potential of calcium sulfide (CaS) nanostructures in skin and breast cancer models, leading to a significant reduction in cancer cell proliferation.

Early experience managing intravascular coagulum using polidocanol endovenous microfoam: Risk factor analysis.

ObjectiveA single-center retrospective cohort study was conducted to identify potential risk factors that lead to increased incidence of intravascular coagulum (IC) observed in clinical practice using polidocanol endovenous microfoam (PEM 1%, Varithena [polidocanol injectable microfoam], Boston Scientific, Marlborough, Mass).MethodsPatients ( = 119) who received polidocanol endovenous microfoam (PEM) treatment for chronic venous insufficiency between December 2021 and January 2024 at a private outpatient vascular surgery clinic were observed to identify potential risk factors in the development of IC. The patients were stratified into two groups: IC ( = 16) versus non-IC ( = 103).

Clinical reasoning is essential to the practice of medicine. Such reasoning involves analytical (deductive) and non-analytical (recall) processes. Non-analytical reasoning is taught extensively in medical schools, and it dominates medical students' time as they review question banks and lecture notes, watch videos online, and memorize flashcards, algorithms, and illness scripts.

Early experience with diclofenac topical gel for moderate to severe postablation phlebitis.

Objective: Oral (PO) nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used to treat phlebitis and thrombus extension postendovenous ablation. Few studies have evaluated diclofenac topical gel for treating postablation phlebitis. This study assesses diclofenac 1% topical gel as a first-line treatment for patients with moderate to severe phlebitis after ablation.

Unusual Vascular Distribution in the Third Segment of the Axillary Artery.

The third segment of the axillary artery (TSAA) is the main vascular supply to the muscles of the upper limb. Numerous studies have reported atypical branching patterns of the TSAA, which can complicate operative interventions involving structures supplied by this segment of the artery. Our current study evaluated a previously undescribed branching pattern in the TSAA, in which the subscapular artery gave rise to an unusual posterior humeral circumflex artery, and a second subscapular artery.

From Cadaveric Dissection to the Operating Room: A Unilateral Double Intercostobrachial Nerve and the Implications in Axillary Lymph Node Dissection.

There are multiple treatment options for breast cancer (BC), including lumpectomy, chemo- and radiotherapy, complete mastectomy, and, when indicated, an axillary lymph node dissection. Such node dissections commonly lead the surgeon to encounter the intercostobrachial nerve (ICBN), which, if injured, leads to significant postoperative numbness of the upper arm. To assist in identifying the ICBN, we report a unilateral variation of a dual ICBN.

Metadherin Regulates Inflammatory Breast Cancer Invasion and Metastasis.

Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is one of the most lethal subtypes of breast cancer (BC), accounting for approximately 1-5% of all cases of BC. Challenges in IBC include accurate and early diagnosis and the development of effective targeted therapies. Our previous studies identified the overexpression of metadherin (MTDH) in the plasma membrane of IBC cells, further confirmed in patient tissues.
