The Effectiveness and Safety of Tai Chi on Knee Pain: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Although Tai Chi has shown potential benefits for managing chronic pain, its clinical effectiveness specifically for knee pain remains inconclusive. We systematically searched ten electronic databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of Tai Chi on knee pain. This systematic review and meta-analysis included 11 RCTs involving 706 participants; among them, three studies (n = 169) were eligible for meta-analysis.

Analysis of gear transmission error in helical gear using enhanced tooth contact analysis model considering measured tooth profile errors.

A loaded tooth contact analysis model was developed to assess transmission error by incorporating profile errors in a helical gear pair. Profile errors for all teeth of both the pinion and wheel were measured, and the mean profile error was computed and integrated into the model. To validate the model, static transmission error (STE) was measured experimentally.

Initial impacts of the Hebei Spirit oil spill on the sandy beach macrobenthic community west coast of Korea.

Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination and macrobenthos in the sandy tidal flats of Taean were monitored for 1 year to assess the impacts of Hebei Spirit oil on the macrobenthic community. A total of 207 macrobenthic fauna was collected, and the mean density and biomass of macrobenthic fauna continued to decrease until 12 months after the oil spill, but macrobenthic density at the most heavily affected sites increased by about twofold. In January 2008, the dominant species occurred at very low densities in strongly affected sites.

Fatal pulmonary embolism caused by thrombosis of contralateral axillary vein after arthroscopic right rotator cuff repair -A case report-.

A clinically apparent thromboembolism associated with arthroscopic shoulder surgery is extremely rare. We report a case of a fatal pulmonary embolism developed after an arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in a 45-year-old woman. On the first day after surgery, she experienced syncope that was complicated by cardiac arrest.

Sauchinone, a lignan from Saururus chinensis, reduces tumor necrosis factor-alpha production through the inhibition of c-raf/MEK1/2/ERK 1/2 pathway activation.

We investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of sauchinone, a lignan isolated from Saururus chinensis, and the underlying mechanism in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. To assess the effects of sauchinone on LPS-induced macrophages activation, we measured the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha and macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP)-2, and activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) including extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) 1/2, c-Jun amino terminal kinases and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase, and NF-kappaB activation in RAW264.

The effect of epigallocatechin gallate on lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury in a murine model.

In the present study, production of TNF-alpha and MIP-2 and activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK)1/2, c-Jun amino terminal kinases (JNK) and p38 in RAW264.7 cells were measured.
