Skeletal muscle atrophy is a debilitating condition characterized by the loss of muscle mass and function. It is commonly associated with aging, chronic diseases, disuse, and prolonged glucocorticoid therapy. Oxidative stress and catabolic signaling pathways play significant roles in the progression of muscle degradation.

Antae-eum (ATE), a traditional herbal formula consisting of ten medicinal herbs, has been primarily used for fetal health and the alleviation of abdominal pain during pregnancy. However, comprehensive experimental studies on its pharmacological effects and mechanisms of action are lacking. Local inflammatory responses in the uterus play a crucial role in embryo implantation and early placental development, while excessive inflammation can lead to implantation failure, recurrent miscarriage, and preeclampsia.

seeds (AQSs) are used as an analgesic, antiphlogistic, and diuretic in traditional herbal medicine. We developed an ultra-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) simultaneous component analysis method to analyze eight compounds (chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid A, isochlorogenic acid C, hederacolchiside F, hederacoside C, dipsacoside B, akebia saponin D, and α-hederin) as markers for the quality assessment of AQSs. The separation of the eight analytes was performed in an Acquity UPLC BEH C reversed-phase analytical column.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common inflammatory skin disease characterized by recurrent eczema and chronic itching, affecting a significant portion of the global population. This study investigated the effects of Corydalis Tuber 70% ethanol extract (CTE) on tumor necrosis factor-α- and interferon-γ (TI)-stimulated human keratinocytes (HaCaT) and a house dust mite-induced AD mouse model, elucidating its mechanism via transcriptome analysis. A total of 13 compounds, including columbamine, corydaline, dehydrocorydaline, and glaucine, were identified in CTE using ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Background: Gongjin-dan (GJD, also known as Gongchen-dan) and Ssanghwa-tang (SHT, also known as Shuanghe-tang or Souwa-to) are herbal medicines that are widely used in Korea for treating fatigue. However, few studies have evaluated the efficacy and safety of GJD and SHT in the treatment of chronic fatigue.

Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 90 individuals with persistent (≥6 months) chronic fatigue of unknown cause and a Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) score of ≥4 were randomly assigned to GJD group, SHT group, and control group in a 1:1:1 ratio.

Traditionally, Lilium lancifolium bulb is known for its ability to nourish yin, nourish the lungs, clear the heart, soothe coughs, reduce irritability, and calm the mind. In Oriental Medicine, it is categorized as a tonic remedy for alleviating symptoms of fatigue and enhancing the strength of bones and muscles. In this study, we aimed to validate the effectiveness of the aquo-ethanolic extract of Lilli Bulbus (LBE) in a dexamethasone (DEX)-induced muscle atrophy model, both in vitro and in vivo, and elucidate its mechanism of action through muscle transcriptome analysis.

Despite the continued clinical application of traditional herbal medicines, scientific evidence such as toxicological safety profile of Yongdamsagan-tang water extract (YSTW) has not yet been established. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential toxicity profile of YSTW following a 13-week repeated oral administration at various concentrations to Sprague Dawley rats. YSTW was administered orally to rats once daily at doses of 0, 1000, 2000, and 5000 mg/kg bw/day for 13 weeks.

Yeokwisan (YWS) is an herbal medicine prescription consisting of six oriental herbal medicines, developed to treat reflux esophagitis. We focused on developing an analytical method capable of simultaneously quantifying 13 compounds in YWS samples using high-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection (HPLC-PDA) and ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) and exploring their antioxidant effects. All compounds examined in both analytical systems were chromatographically separated on a SunFire C (4.

This study was conducted to assess the effect of Evodiae Fructus 70% ethanol extract (EFE) on the pathology of atopic dermatitis using in vitro and in vivo models. The major compounds in EFE were identified by ultra-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry as rutaecarpine, evodiamine, evodol, dehydroevodiamine, limonin, synephrine, evocarpine, dihydroevocarpine, and hydroxyevodiamine. EFE significantly decreased chemokine levels in tumor necrosis factor-α/interferon-γ-stimulated HaCaT cells.

  • Respiratory exposure to particulate matter, particularly fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and diesel exhaust, leads to oxidative stress and inflammation in the lungs, increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
  • The study investigated the effects of Securiniga suffruticosa (S. suffruticosa) on lung and cardiovascular inflammation induced by diesel exhaust particulate (DEP) in mice, finding that S. suffruticosa significantly reduced various inflammatory markers in the lungs and thoracic aorta.
  • The results suggested that S. suffruticosa may offer therapeutic benefits by lowering inflammation and oxidative stress in air pollution-exposed tissues by suppressing the NLRP3 signaling pathway.
