Prospero homeobox protein 1 (PROX1) is aberrantly expressed in tumors, including neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs); however, the detailed expression pattern remains elusive. This study aimed to immunohistochemically assess PROX1 expression. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) for PROX1 was performed on tissue microarrays of normal tissues (n = 107), NENs (n = 152) (small cell lung carcinoma [SCLC], lung carcinoid [LC], gastroenteropancreatic-NEN [GEP-NEN], esophageal neuroendocrine carcinoma [ENEC], medullary thyroid carcinoma [MTC], neuroblastoma [NB], and pheochromocytoma [PHEO]), and non-NENs (n = 469).

Preexisting cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a pivotal risk factor for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We investigated the longitudinal (over 1 year and 9 months) humoral and cellular responses to primary series and booster doses of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in patients with CVD. Twenty-six patients with CVD who received monovalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccines were enrolled in this study.

Methods: A total of 554 randomly selected inpatient and outpatient urine samples were collected for analysis using the UF-1500, the UF-5000, and by manual microscopic examination. The coincidence rate, intraday repeatability, and interday reproducibility were evaluated on the UF-1500 and UF-5000.
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) are functional RNAs, with over 200 nucleotides in length and lacking protein-coding potential. Studies have indicated that lncRNAs are important gene regulators under physiological conditions. Aberrant lncRNA expression is associated with the initiation and progression of various diseases, including cancers.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLong non-coding RNA (lncRNA) plays an important role in the regulation of gene expression in normal and cancer cells. We previously discovered a novel tumor-suppressive lncRNA, , in prostate cancer cells. Subsequent studies have demonstrated that is dysregulated in various malignancies and exhibits a tumor-suppressive or pro-oncogenic function.

This study aimed to examine whether resting echocardiographic parameters could exclude significant CAD on CCTA.
Methods: We recruited 142 patients who had undergone both CCTA and echocardiography within a 3-month window.
Background/aim: Cervical lymph node metastasis worsens oral cancer prognosis. Cancer cells with high metastatic ability can delay or resist apoptosis and survive in the floating condition during circulation. The involved genes and pathways in this process remain largely unknown.

Background/aim: We aimed to evaluate the changes of androgen receptor (AR) signaling-related long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in serum extracellular vesicles (EVs) from prostate cancer (PC) patients, in order to identify novel biomarkers for AR axis-targeted therapy (ARAT)-resistance among castration-resistant PC (CRPC) patients.
Patients And Methods: EVs were isolated from 2 patients before and after acquiring ARAT-resistance. RNA profiling of EVs was performed by RNA-sequencing.

Aims: This study aimed to determine the new cut-off value of serum angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) levels for detecting patients with sarcoidosis and to examine the change in ACE levels after the initiation of immunosuppressive therapy.
Methods And Results: We retrospectively examined patients in whom serum ACE levels were measured for suspected sarcoidosis between 2009 and 2020 in our institution. For patients diagnosed with sarcoidosis, changes in ACE levels were also observed.

A previous study revealed that treatment with the anticoagulant heparin attenuated concanavalin A (ConA)-induced liver injury. The administration of spermidine (SPD) increased urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) levels in the serum. uPA is clinically used for the treatment of some thrombotic diseases such as cerebral infarction.

Background/aim: Cancer cells with high anchorage independence can survive and proliferate in the absence of adhesion to the extracellular matrix. Under anchorage-independent conditions, cancer cells adhere to each other and form aggregates to overcome various stresses. In this study, we investigated the cytomorphology and gene expression signatures of oral cancer cell aggregates.

Recently, we reported that the selective inhibition of indoleamine 2,3‑dioxygenase (Ido) 1 promotes early liver regeneration. However, the role of Ido2 in liver regeneration remains unclear.

Background And Aim: Cell-based transplantation therapy using hepatocytes, hepatic stem cells, hepatocyte-like cells induced from stem cells, etc. is thought to be an attractive alternative to liver transplantation, and have been studied to date. For its clinical application, however, it is extremely important to develop a model that reproduces the pathological conditions with indication for treatment and enables the study for the ideal treatment strategy.

Objectives: High concentrations of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) are a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. We validated the efficacy of the Martin method is useful in the estimation of LDL-C concentrations was validated in Japanese populations and derived a modified Martin method for easy laboratory information system applications.
Methods: We created 3 subject groups, including 2664 health check-up participants registered with the Resource Center for Health Science, 29,806 clinical patients (A) in the Gifu University Hospital, and 113,716 clinical patients (B) in the Fujita Health University Hospital.
A recent study revealed that d-mannose suppressed immunopathology in mouse models of autoimmune diabetes and airway inflammation and increased the proportion of regulatory T cells (Tregs) in mice. We investigated the effect of d-mannose on liver injury in murine autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) models induced by concanavalin A (ConA) and α-galactosylceramide (GalCer). Mouse models of AIH were created by intraperitoneal injection of GalCer or intravenous injection of ConA.
