Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory condition requiring lifelong management, with anti-tumor necrosis factor α (anti-TNF-α) agents often used for refractory cases. However, secondary loss of response (LOR) to these agents, due to anti-drug antibodies, poses a significant therapeutic challenge. This report describes a case where granulocyte and monocyte adsorptive apheresis (GMA) maintenance therapy successfully restored the efficacy of an anti-TNF-α agent in a 26-year-old male with active UC experiencing LOR to infliximab.

However, definitive chemoradiotherapy (dCRT) is associated with a recurrence rate of 30% in stage I ESCC and higher rates in advanced-staged lesions. However, several patients prefer dCRT because their general condition is poor.

The biopsy specimen showed a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Immunohistochemistry was negative for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2, positive for claudin- 18, and revealed a preserved mismatch repair status.

However, rSnare is associated with a lower en bloc resection rate compared with conventional ESD. Traction-assisted ESD has emerged as a technique to facilitate dissection, but its effectiveness as a rescue method remains unclear.

This study aimed to evaluate throwing function after coracoid transfer for shoulder instability.
Methods: The study included non-overhead athletes (n = 11; Bristow-Latarjet [BL] group) who suffered shoulder dislocation and underwent coracoid transfer on the dominant side of the shoulder and healthy volunteers (n = 20; C group) from the same population (overall age distribution: 18-22 years).
To achieve a better understanding of the evolution of the large brain in humans, a comparative analysis of species differences in the brains of extant primate species is crucial, as it allows direct comparisons of the brains. We developed a method to achieve anatomically precise region-to-region homologous brain transformations across species using computational neuroanatomy. Utilizing three-dimensional neuroimaging data from humans (Homo sapiens), chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes), and Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata), along with the anatomical labels of their respective brains, we aimed to create a cross-species average template brain that preserves neuroanatomical correspondence across species.

Background: Crohn's disease (CD) is a refractory inflammatory bowel disease with an unclear etiology. CircularRNA (circRNA) has been highlighted as a novel class of functional noncoding RNAs associated with the pathogenesis of various diseases. However, the functions of circRNA in CD remain unclear.

The case was a 56-year-old woman after nine courses of GCS therapy. The patient experienced grade 1 muscle weakness on day 4 and grade 3, cognitive disorder on day 7 after receiving entrectinib, which led to hospitalization.

Upon evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with unresectable UC-associated colon cancer (UCAC), localized in the transverse colon. Using gene profiling of the tumor tissue, anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) antibody combination chemotherapy was selected.

Currently, the impact of the breathing method on these factors remains unclear. We conducted the first randomized controlled trial comparing oral breathing (OB) and nasal breathing (NB) during both UE and CE to assess their influence.

However, this feature is also found in fundic gland polyps (FGPs), posing a challenge in their differentiation. In this study, we aimed to investigate the clinicopathological features of gastric elevated lesions with DVBA and assess the efficacy of the white ring sign (WRS) as a novel marker for distinguishing between FGPs and GA-FGs.

However, its specific effects on colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) outcomes remain uncertain. This study aimed to assess the risk factors for post-ESD bleeding and the effect of CSS on colorectal ESD outcomes.

Background And Aim: Image enhancement endoscopy techniques, such as linked color imaging (LCI) and autofluorescence imaging (AFI), have shown promise in diagnosing mucosal inflammation in ulcerative colitis (UC). However, no studies have directly compared the diagnostic efficacy of LCI and AFI. This prospective observational study aimed to compare their diagnostic accuracy for histological healing in UC.

It is not practical to measure individual enzyme activities when measuring mucinase activity. In this method, mucinase activity is measured using porcine gastric mucin as a substrate and feces as an enzyme source.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFSince the core protein of mucin in the digesta of the stomach and small intestine, which is less affected by bacteria, remains intact, mucin content can be measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). However, the mucin core protein in bacteria-rich colon digesta and feces is partially hydrolyzed by bacterial enzymes and not fully recognized by mucin antibodies, so mucin cannot be accurately quantified by ELISA. This method quantifies the glycan content linked to the mucin core protein and expresses mucin content in the colon digesta and feces as the equivalent of O-linked oligosaccharide chain.

The characteristics of 309 patients with idiopathic peptic ulcer were examined. We allocated idiopathic peptic ulcers that did not heal after 8 weeks' treatment (6 weeks for duodenal ulcers) to the refractory group and those that healed within this period to the healed group.

Introduction: A remission induction therapy of granulocyte and monocyte adsorptive apheresis (GMA) was given to patients with Crohn's disease (CD). However, establishing an appropriate treatment strategy for GMA in patients with CD remains unclear.
Methods: This study evaluated the clinical efficacy and subsequent clinical progression after GMA in patients with CD who underwent GMA in seven independent institutions in Japan from 2010 to 2023.
Aims: Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) injury is a potential complication after the direct anterior approach for total hip arthroplasty (DAA-THA). The aim of this study was to determine how the location of the fasciotomy in DAA-THA affects LFCN injury.
Methods: In this trial, 134 patients were randomized into a lateral fasciotomy (n = 67) or a conventional fasciotomy (n = 67) group.

Purpose: In complex and diverse social circumstances, decision making is affected by social feedback. Although previous studies have examined the electrophysiological correlates of social feedback with a binary valence, those related to non-binary feedback, or the magnitude of social feedback, remain unclear. This study investigated the electrophysiological correlates of non-binary social feedback and subsequent action selection processing.

Dietary polyphenols are thought to have a variety of beneficial effects on these diseases characterized by inflammation. Clinical studies have demonstrated that MMPs are in most cases upregulated in various inflammatory diseases, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and Alzheimer's disease.
