Background: 25-hydroxyvitamin D is the body's main storage form of vitamin D and is internationally recognized as the best indicator of vitamin D status in the human body. There is a scarcity of research investigating the interrelationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels and mortality among elderly individuals with hyperlipidemia. To address this knowledge gap, we examined the association between serum 25(OH)D levels and mortality in an older hyperlipidemic population from NHANES, while controlling for other influential factors.

Article Synopsis
  • Calcineurin inhibitors like tacrolimus are essential for organ transplants but can harm kidney function, impacting long-term survival post-transplant.
  • A pilot study tested low-dose tacrolimus combined with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on 16 kidney transplant patients, comparing it to a standard tacrolimus dosage in another 16 patients.
  • Results showed that patients receiving the low-dose and MSCs had stable kidney function and similar outcomes at 24 months, suggesting that MSCs allow for safer, lower doses of calcineurin inhibitors without additional toxicity.
