The prevention of hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) in children undergoing long-duration surgical procedures is of critical importance due to the potential for catastrophic sequelae of these generally preventable injuries for the child and their family. Long-duration surgical procedures in children have the potential to result in high rates of HAPI due to physiological factors and the difficulty or impossibility of repositioning these patients intraoperatively. We developed and implemented a multi-modal, multi-disciplinary translational HAPI prevention quality improvement program at a large European Paediatric University Teaching Hospital.

Patients with special needs (SNPs) include individuals who are disabled due to physical limitations, medical complications, developmental problems, and cognitive impairments. Purpose: This study aimed to: (1) investigate the extent to which Family Centered Care (FCC) principles are currently applied in clinical practice by healthcare providers working in inpatient units; (2) evaluate the extent to which FCC principles are perceived as necessary; and (3) examine the associations between FCC principles and socio-demographic and job characteristics of participants. Design and Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted at a large pediatric hospital using the Italian version of the FCC Questionnaire Revised (FCCQ-R). Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed.
