Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Emotional Health of Children Under 6 Years in Washington, DC.

A growing body of international research continues to show evidence of worsening youth mental health since the beginning of the COVID-19 global pandemic, yet very little research in this area has included young children under 6 years. Given the potential impact of early life stress during this critical period of development, it is crucial to better understand the effects on this age group. The objective of this study was to better understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the emotional health of very young children.

Forces and moments on a maxillary lateral incisor using 3D-printed aligners with pressure points: an in vitro study.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the initial forces and moments exerted by 3D-printed clear aligners on a maxillary left lateral incisor during distal rotation using pressure points and/or relief channels.

Materials And Methods: An in vitro setup using multi-axis force/moment transducers measured forces and moments on tooth 22, rotated 3° distally. Six experimental groups were tested, using TC-85 clear resin aligners with varying pressure points (PP) and relief channel configurations: Group 1 (CON): Control with no PPs or channels; Group 2 (FP): Facial PP on the distofacial aspect; Group 3 (LP): Lingual PP on the mesiolingual aspect; Group 4 (DBL): Combined facial and lingual PPs; Group 5 (FWR): FP with a distolingual relief channel; and Group 6 (LWR): LP with a mesiofacial relief channel.

The endocannabinoid system in cancer biology: a mini-review of mechanisms and therapeutic potential.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) plays a critical role in maintaining physiological homeostasis, influencing a range of processes such as neuroprotection, inflammation, energy metabolism, and immune responses. Comprising cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2), endogenous ligands (endocannabinoids), and the enzymes responsible for their synthesis and degradation, the ECS has attracted increasing attention in cancer research. Cannabinoid receptor activation has been associated with the regulation of cancer-related processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, and angiogenesis, suggesting that the ECS may have a role in tumor progression and cancer treatment.

Sharp wave ripple (SWR) events, present in diverse species, spontaneously occur in the hippocampus during quiescent restfulness and slow-wave sleep. SWRs comprise a negative deflection, the sharp wave (SW) event with an often-superimposed ripple (R) and are the neural correlates of memory consolidation and recall. The Anterodorsolateral lobe (ADL) (zebrafish hippocampal homolog) exhibits SW and SWR events, and since SWs initiate SWRs, their abundance typically shows the same directionality.

Mechanosensitive Piezo channels regulate cell division, cell extrusion, and cell death. However, systems-level functions of Piezo in regulating organogenesis remain poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that Piezo controls epithelial cell topology to ensure precise organ growth by integrating live-imaging experiments with pharmacological and genetic perturbations and computational modeling.

Management of ankylosed teeth using the decoronation technique: integrative literature review and case report.

Introduction: The decoronation technique has been described in literature since 1984 and, based on the available results, it can lead to considerable benefits for the repair and rehabilitation of ankylosed teeth. Based on these reports, one could expect that this procedure would be well known by the dental community. However, this fact does not seem to be true, and this procedure is not widely used.

Forces and moments generated during extrusion of a maxillary central incisor with clear aligners: an in vitro study.

Objective: To assess the possibility of extrusion of a maxillary central incisor with the use of buccal and lingual pressure columns in the absence of attachments, and to evaluate the forces and moments experienced by the teeth using both thermoformed and 3D-printed clear aligners.

Materials And Methods: A three-axis force and moment sensor (Aidin Robotics, Anyang, South Korea) was used to measure the forces and moments during extrusion of an upper left central incisor (UL1) and any forces experienced by the upper right central incisor (UR1) using thermoformed aligners and 3D-printed aligners. For the thermoformed aligners, the materials used were ATMOS® (American Orthodontics, Sheboygan, WI) and Zendura FLX® (Bay Materials LLC, Fremont, CA).

Chest CT accuracy in the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection: initial experience in a cancer center.

Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of chest computed tomography (CT) in patients with suspected severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection at a cancer center.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective single-center study selected 91 patients who had chest CT and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test collected at the same day. CT results were classified in negative, typical, indeterminate or atypical findings.

Breast cancer mammographic diagnosis performance in a public health institution: a retrospective cohort study.

Objectives: To evaluate the quality assurance of mammography results at a reference institution for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in southern Brazil, based on the BIRADS (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) 5th edition recommendations for auditing purposes.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective cohort and cross-sectional study with 4502 patients (9668 mammographies)) who underwent at least one or both breast mammographies throughout 2013 at a regional public hospital, linked to a federal public university. The results were followed until 31 December 2014, including true positives (TPs), true negatives (TNs), false positives (FPs), false negatives (FNs), positive predictive values (PPVs), negative predictive value (NPV), sensitivity and specificity, with a confidence interval of 95%.

Background: Our previous studies demonstrated that growth and migration of medulloblastoma (MB), the most common malignant brain tumor in children, are stimulated by 17β-estradiol. The growth stimulating effects of estrogens are mediated through ERβ and insulin-like growth factor 1 signaling to inhibit caspase 3 activity and reduce tumor cell apoptosis. The objective of this study was to determine whether estrogens decreased sensitivity of MB cells to cytotoxic actions of chemotherapeutic drugs.

[Canine lymphadenitis caused by Cryptococcus neoformans. First case in Chile].

We report the first case of canine lymphoadenomegalia caused by Cryptococcus neoformans in Chile. Physical examination of a Rottweiler dog patient showed a generalized lymphoadenomegalia that affected the submandibular, superficial cervical and popliteus lymphatic nodules. Cryptococcus neoformans was isolated and identified from biopsies of the right submandibular nodule.

A multidisciplinary approach to surgical management of placenta previa percreta with bladder invasion: a case report.

Placenta previa percreta with bladder invasion occurs rarely. However this disorder has become more common since the increased rate of cesarean deliveries. We present a 26 year old gravida 3, para 2-0-1-2 female with placenta previa, percreta and bladder invasion to stress out the importance of early recognition of this life threatening condition and to point out that the good outcome of this case was mainly due to the multidisciplinary approach chosen during the preoperative and post operative management.
