Purpose: To synthesize the pooled estimate of the overall incidence of social frailty (SF) and pre-frailty, as well as the prevalence of SF based on sex, country, participant type, and assessment tool used.

Method: This systematic review and meta-analysis incorporated data from inception to December 2021 using six databases: PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, CINAHL Plus, PsycINFO, and Cochrane Library. In addition to using a comprehensive set of medical subject headings and text phrases in Chinese and English, additional research was manually retrieved from reference lists.

BackgroundThis discussion paper provides a reflection on ethical aspects of participant recruitment experiences during one research (PhD) project in the Republic of Ireland (ROI). Using Gibbs' framework for reflection, this paper examines these experiences. The research (PhD) project that informed this reflection aimed to understand the experiences of family caregivers when caring for family members at the end of their life, through recorded interviews in the home, within the context of palliative care provision.

Objectives: To investigate the relationship between social frailty (SF) and quality of life (QoL) in older heart failure individuals and to verify the mediating effect of resilience and the symptoms of depression and anxiety (DA) on this relationship.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was implemented to collect data from 443 old HF patients from three tertiary hospitals based on convenient sampling. The measurement tools included a general information questionnaire, the Social Frailty Scale, the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire.

Background: Pre-hospital emergency nurses, frequently exposed to high-stress situations, are at risk for burnout and stress-related issues, affecting their overall well-being. The Professional Quality of Life (ProQoL) scale, widely used among hospital nurses, remains untested in pre-hospital emergency settings.

Background: Delirium is an acute and fluctuating disturbance of cognition and is a common occurrence in critically ill patients. It is a manifestation of an acute brain dysfunction often attributed to higher survival rates and a subsequently aging population. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) treatment and survival often contributes towards development of delirium, and lack of or inappropriate management can translate into the development of long-term psychological effects that last even after discharge.

Established in 2006, the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) investigates the health, economic and social circumstances of a nationally-representative sample of people aged fifty years and older in a series of biennial data collection waves. Irish newspapers have been reporting the results of TILDA for over a decade and a half, and their texts represent reports of scientific research distilled through the pen of journalists. In their totality, their texts constitute a public discourse on ageing and health.
