Background: Associations between premenopausal plasma metabolites and breast cancer incidence are largely unknown.
Methods: We conducted a prospective, matched case-control study in which we measured pre-diagnostic metabolomic profiles among predominantly premenopausal women in the Nurses' Health Study II (n = 2010). Lipids, carbohydrates, and organic acid-related metabolites (n = 218) were profiled via liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.
Background: Several medications have been identified as potential risk factors for microscopic colitis (MC), but evidence so far is hampered by methodological limitations.
Objective: To examine the potential causal effects of previously implicated medications on risk for MC.
Design: Emulation of 6 target trials.

Effect estimates for these interventions are often based on observational data and are challenging to interpret due to vaguely defined causal questions, design-induced biases, and lack of comparability between individuals.
Methods: We outlined a three-step procedure to address these challenges: target trial specification, emulation, and modification to explore lack of comparability due to unmeasured confounding or positivity violations.
The 2018 World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research recommends sustained strategies of physical activity and diet for cancer prevention, but evidence for long-term prostate cancer risk is limited. This narrative review summarizes current research, challenges, and future directions for epidemiologic studies of nutritional metabolomics and cancer.
Recent Findings: Although many studies have used metabolomics to investigate either dietary exposures or cancer, few studies have explicitly investigated diet-cancer relationships using metabolomics.

Background: Tobacco and alcohol are well-established risk factors for numerous cancers, yet their relationship to biliary tract cancers remains unclear.
Methods: We pooled data from 26 prospective studies to evaluate associations of cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption with biliary tract cancer risk. Study-specific hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for associations with smoking and alcohol consumption were calculated.
Biliary tract cancers are rare but highly fatal with poorly understood etiology. Identifying potentially modifiable risk factors for these cancers is essential for prevention. Background And Aim: Inflammation plays a role in the development of both gallstones and gallbladder cancer; however, few studies have investigated the association of circulating inflammation proteins with risk of gallstones.
Methods: This study measured 13 cytokines (including 10 interleukins [ILs]) that have been associated with cancer in serum samples collected from 150 gallstone patients and 149 population-based controls from Shanghai, China, in 1997-2001. This study estimated the associations of each cytokine, categorized into quartiles and coded as a trend, with risk of gallstones using logistic regression models adjusted for potential confounders.
Although inflammation is central to gallbladder cancer (GBC) development and proliferation, no study has systematically investigated circulating inflammatory proteins and patient survival. We aimed to examine whether the circulating levels of inflammatory proteins is associated with all-cause mortality among such patients.
