Purpose: Biochemical recurrence (BCR) after definitive local therapy remains a major clinical challenge in prostate cancer (PCa), with heterogeneous disease trajectories and few established strategies to delay further progression without prolonged androgen deprivation. This pilot study evaluated the combination of 5-azacitidine (AZA) and all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) to induce tumor dormancy and delay clinical progression in patients with BCR.
Experimental Design: In a prospective, open-label, randomized, single-institution pilot trial, patients with BCR of PCa and no recent hormonal or definitive therapy received low-dose AZA and sequential ATRA.

This study explored using ultrafiltration (UF) membranes to treat pulp and paper mill wastewater, implementing a novel Taguchi experimental design to optimize operating conditions for pollutant removal and minimal membrane fouling. Researchers examined four factors: pH, temperature, transmembrane pressure, and volume reduction factor (VRF), each at three levels. Optimal conditions (pH 10, 25°C, 6 bar, VRF 3) led to a 35% reduction in flux due to fouling and high pollutant rejections: total hardness (83%), sulfate (97%), spectral absorption coefficient (SAC254) (95%), and chemical oxygen demand (COD) (89%).

A significant number of the genetic alterations observed in cancer patients lie within nonprotein-coding segments of the genome, including regions coding for long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs). LncRNAs display aberrant expression in breast cancer (BrCa), but the functional implications of this altered expression remain to be elucidated.
