Background: Critical illness not only threatens the life of the patient but also may profoundly impact the lives of their loved ones. For teenagers with a critically ill parent, these impacts may have significant, developmentally impactful effects. The study objective was to learn about burnout prevalence among beginning first-year students from three health professional programs-Advance Practice Registered Nursing (APRN), Medicine, and Physician Associate (PA) training. All first-year students were invited to anonymously complete a survey measuring burnout. Subscales for exhaustion and disengagement together accounted for burnout.

Rationale: In response to injury, the rodent heart is capable of virtually full regeneration via cardiomyocyte proliferation early in life. This regenerative capacity, however, is diminished as early as 1 week postnatal and remains lost in adulthood.
