Purpose: Suprachoroidal (SC) drug delivery is a promising avenue for treating posterior segment ocular diseases. Current ex vivo models, primarily human cadaveric eyes, are limited by tissue variability and altered post-mortem fluid dynamics. We introduce near-real surgical specimens (NRSS), an engineered ocular tissue platform, to overcome these limitations and provide standardized, reproducible evaluation of SC drug delivery.

Greater perceived control is often associated with better responses to life's stressors. One reason for this link may be that greater perceived control is related to the ability to resolve these stressful experiences. Using longitudinal data from the National Study of Daily Experiences (N = 1766, Mage = 56.

Prior research posits that for African Americans, engaging in poor health behaviors (PHBs), such as smoking or drinking, buffers the negative effects of stressful life events. This study explored how PHBs exacerbate (double jeopardy) or buffer reactivity to daily family stressors among African Americans and European Americans ( = 1,931) ages 34-84 from the National Study of Daily Experiences (NSDE II). During 8 days of telephone interviews, respondents reported on family stressors, health behaviors (number of cigarettes and alcoholic beverages), affect, and physical symptoms.

Host genetic variability is relevant to understanding how parasites modulate natural selection in wild fish populations. Coastal lagoons are transitional ecosystems where knowledge lacks on relationships between genotypic diversity with parasitism. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of genetic diversity on host health and parasitological traits in fish inhabiting a Mediterranean lagoon.

Advanced age has been associated with benefits in stress reactivity. However, previous research has not investigated this advantage for daily memory functioning, which is crucial for the quality of life in adulthood. Considering the possible detrimental effects of stressors on daily memory functioning, this study investigated the relationship between stressor occurrence and memory lapses in middle and late adulthood and whether positive affect acts as a stress buffer.

Epigenetic aging measures are novel molecular indicators of biological aging that predict age-related chronic disease. We examined whether several established indices of epigenetic aging mediated the association between life course socioeconomic status (SES) and decrements in kidney function across a decade. Biomarker data were from 252 non-Hispanic (NH) Black and white participants who had consented to genetic analyses in Wave 2 (2004-2009) and 3 (2014-2021) of the Midlife in the United States study (MIDUS).

Despite mounting evidence that greater affective responsivity to naturally occurring daily stressors is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), few studies have examined dysregulation of the sympathetic nervous system as a potential mechanism. We hypothesized that greater affective responsivity to daily stressful events would be related to increased urinary catecholamine excretion. Daily stress processes (8-day daily diary) were assessed in 715 middle-aged adults (56 ± 11 yr; 57% female) from the Midlife in the United States Study.

Introduction: Chronological age is a particularly well-known indicator of variability in systemic inflammation. Other pertinent aspects of age (or "age proxies") - subjective or epigenetic age - may offer nuanced information about age and inflammation associations. Using the Midlife in the United States Study, we explored how chronological, subjective, and epigenetic age were associated with inflammation.

Background: Evidence suggests that adults with major depressive disorder appraise daily stressor events as more severe and report stronger stressor-related negative emotions than non-depressed adults. Despite the growing number of young adults (~18-25 yrs) experiencing depressive symptoms in the absence of a formal clinical diagnosis, limited studies have examined whether current depressive symptom severity influences affective responsivity to daily stressors in young men and women. We tested the hypotheses that greater depressive symptom severity would be related to greater negative stressor appraisal characteristics and greater affective responsivity to daily stressors but not to stressor exposure frequency.

Introduction: Housing insecurity is a social determinant of health, as evidenced by its associations with mental, physical, and biological outcomes. The scientific understanding of the mechanisms by which housing insecurity is associated with health is still limited. This review adapts existing stress process models to propose a conceptual model illustrating potential pathways linking the specific stressor of housing insecurity to physiological and epigenetic manifestations of stress among aging adults.

Background: Personalized approaches to behavior change to improve mental and physical health outcomes are needed. Reducing the intensity, duration, and frequency of stress responses is a mechanism for interventions to improve health behaviors. We developed an ambulatory, dynamic stress measurement approach that can identify personalized stress responses in the moments and contexts in which they occur; we propose that intervening in these stress responses as they arise (ie, just in time; JIT) will result in positive impacts on health behaviors.
