Understanding the spatial distribution of gene expression in the pancreas is essential for establishing the molecular basis of pancreatic function in healthy and disease contexts. Recent platforms offer a robust method for quantifying gene expression within a spatial context. Here, we report spatial transcriptomic profiling from pancreas samples obtained from three donors with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and three donors with normal glucose tolerance (NGT).

Objectives: Fentanyl has become the primary drug responsible for fatal overdoses in most urban US regions. Information about the impact of fentanyl-related overdose in neurological outcomes after cardiac arrest (CA) compared with other etiologies of CA is limited.

Methods: Retrospective review of medical records from adult patients with out-of-hospital CA who had admission drug testing for fentanyl and opioids from August 2019 to June 2021.

The human cytomegalovirus (CMV) antigen pp65 is expressed in high-grade glioma (HGG) and medulloblastoma but not in the adjacent brain. This single-arm phase 1 trial ( NCT03299309 ) assessed the safety and immunogenicity of a peptide vaccine (PEP-CMV) targeting pp65 in individuals (3-35 years old) with recurrent HGG or medulloblastoma. Thirty-six individuals with HGG received PEP-CMV.

Obscurin is a large muscle protein whose multiple functions include providing mechanical strength to the M-band and linking the sarcomere to the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Mutations in obscurin are linked to various forms of muscle diseases. This study compares cardiac function in a murine model of obscurin deletion (KO) with wild-type (WT) in vivo and ex vivo.

Cell identity genes that exhibit complex regulation are marked by super-enhancer (SE) architecture. Assessment of SEs in natural killer (NK) cells identified Ugcg, encoding the enzyme responsible for glycosphingolipid (GSL) synthesis. Conditional deletion of Ugcg in early hematopoiesis abrogated NK cell generation while sparing other lineages.
