Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of placement on an air-fluidized therapy (AFT) bed or a low-air-loss (LAL) surface bed on wound healing and progression in patients with deep tissue pressure injuries (DTPIs).
Design: Retrospective, comparative descriptive study.
Subjects And Setting: The electronic medical records of 18 patients diagnosed with DTPI involving the sacral, coccygeal, and ischial locations were reviewed.
Objective: The aim of this paper was to validate the Fried frailty phenotype (FFP) in predicting postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing lumbar spine fusion surgery.
Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of the medical records of patients aged 65 years and older who underwent elective lumbar spine surgery between July 2015 and August 2021 at a single institution. The 11-item modified frailty index (mFI-11) and FFP were used to calculate frailty.
Background: Individuals with neurodegenerative disorders are often provided the same perioperative care as unaffected peers, even though unidentified diminished preoperative "brain health" worsens surgical outcomes. We summarize the implementation and standardized data from a phased preoperative cognitive assessment consisting of screening tests administered by clinic staff and, on a failed screening, an immediate neuropsychological assessment from licensed neuropsychologists.
Methods: The present observational study used deidentified patient data provided via an honest broker over 2 years.
Introduction: Ultrasound provides an advantage for obtaining vascular access in deep peripheral veins. Short-axis imaging gives the spatial relationship between the needle and the blood vessel, while long-axis allows for visualization of the whole length of the needle. Biplane imaging allows for simultaneous visualization of both views.

Literature is scarce on the effects of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training (CPRt) on anxiety and stress of parents. We analysed the impact of CPRt on anxiety, stress, and comfort levels on parents of infants with heart disease.

Dispositional traits and socioeconomic status are independent predictors of mental and physical health, although significant variability remains. Dispositional traits serve as the biological interface for life experiences.

We used data from a perioperative database of older adults undergoing elective surgery with anesthesia to (1) examine relationships among preoperative anemia blood markers, preoperative screeners of cognitive function, and chronic disease status; and (2) examine the relationship of these factors with operative outcomes. The primary goal of this study was to investigate the association between preoperative anemia blood markers and cognition measured by a preoperative cognitive screener.

Cefazolin dosing recommendations vary and there is limited evidence for achieved tissue concentrations. We performed a randomized, controlled, prospective pharmacokinetic pilot study of 12 patients given cefazolin by either intermittent bolus (30 mg/kg every 3 h) or continuous infusion (30 mg/kg bolus followed by 10/mg/kg per hour) during PSF for AIS.

Pharmacotherapy has been the primary treatment for ADHD, supplemented by behavioral interventions. Digital and exercise interventions are promising nonpharmacologic approaches for enhancing the physical and psychological health of children with ADHD.

Previous research indicates ethnic-race groups differ in the pain and functional limitations experienced with knee OA. However, when socioenvironmental factors are included in analyses, group differences in pain and function wane.

Objectives: We investigate whether the inclusion of dispositional traits reduces variability between KOA radiographic findings, experimental pain, clinical pain, and function in individuals with knee pain.
Design: This study is a cross-sectional, secondary analysis of data collected from the UPLOAD-II study.

Background: Patients with septic shock have the highest risk of death from sepsis, however, racial disparities in mortality outcomes in this cohort have not been rigorously investigated. Our objective was to describe the association between race/ethnicity and mortality in patients with septic shock.
Methods: Our study is a retrospective cohort study of adult patients in the OneFlorida Data Trust (Florida, United States of America) admitted with septic shock between January 2012 and July 2018 We identified patients as having septic shock if they received vasopressors during their hospital encounter and had either an explicit International Classification of Disease (ICD) code for sepsis, or had an infection ICD code and received intravenous antibiotics.

Prior evidence suggests that Hispanic and non-Hispanic individuals differ in potential risk factors for the development of dementia. Here we determine whether specific brain regions are associated with cognitive performance for either ethnicity along various stages of Alzheimer's disease. For this cross-sectional study, we examined 108 participants (61 Hispanic vs.

More evidence is needed to establish the utility of mSCL in patients undergoing repeat injections with increasing cumulative glucocorticoid equivalent dose (CGED) that could place them at higher risk of HPA axis suppression.
Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of spine injection candidates with significant HPA axis suppression (sigAS), to understand the correlation between 12 months of CGED and the presence of sigAS based on the timing of mSCL collection after the most recent glucocorticoid injection (within 6 weeks or between 6 weeks and 12 months), and to investigate demographic and clinical factors relating to sigAS.

Chronic pain is a stressor that affects whole person functioning. Persistent and prolonged activation of the body's stress systems without adequate recovery can result in measurable physiological and neurobiological dysregulation recognized as allostatic load. We and others have shown chronic pain is associated with measures of allostatic load including clinical biomarker composites, telomere length, and brain structures.

It incorporates a range of strategies to promote early and more effective recovery, including reducing pain, complications, and length of stay, without increasing readmission rate. To date, ERAS for spine surgery patients has been primarily limited to lumbar surgery and anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF).

Background And Purpose: We and others have reported ethnic/race group differences in clinical pain, physical function, and experimental pain sensitivity. However, recent research indicates that with consideration for socioenvironmental factors, ethnicity/race differences become less or non-significant. Understanding of factors contributing to pain inequities are needed.
