Background And Objectives: Institutional racism causes worse health outcomes for patients of racial/ethnic minority groups via limited access to health care, disparities in quality of care delivered, and lack of physician diversity. Increased attention to racism in 2020 led many medical institutions to examine their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. In the context of increased national attention to health equity, this study sought to investigate the current status of DEI infrastructure by evaluating leadership and support related to DEI in family medicine departments in 2020 and 2021.

Healthcare for Sexual and Gender Minority Adolescents.

Primary care providers have a unique opportunity to provide high-quality care to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other identities not encompassed (LGBTQIA+) adolescents. Providers should be familiar with the various identities and definitions in the LGBTQIA + community, as well as social determinants of health and health disparities amongst LGBTQIA + adolescents. Providers should also understand how to foster a welcoming clinical environment, address gender affirming care to adolescents, and demonstrate clinical comfort with pre-exposure human immunodeficiency virus prophylaxis.

Training Among Noncustodial Health Care Workers Caring for Patients Experiencing Incarceration: A Preliminary Investigation.

People experiencing incarceration in the United States receive much of their health care outside of custodial settings. Optimizing care in this setting requires further understanding of the training and experiences of noncustodial health care workers. We conducted a cross-sectional, exploratory survey of health care workers at a single academic institution to assess their training and experiences related to caring for this patient population.

Barriers Pediatric PCP's Identify To Providing Gender-Affirming Care For Adolescents.

Purpose: Both affirming environments and access to gender-affirming medical care have a positive impact on the mental health of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth, however, many TGD youth experience barriers in accessing this care. Pediatric primary care providers (PCPs) can play an important role in expanding access to gender-affirming care for TGD youth; however, few currently provide this care. The purpose of this study was to explore pediatric PCPs' perspectives regarding barriers they experience to providing gender-affirming care in the primary care setting.

Implementation of App-Based Diabetes Medication Management: Outpatient and Perioperative Clinical Decision Support.

Purpose Of Review: Outpatient and perioperative therapeutic decision making for patients with diabetes involves increasingly complex medical-decision making due to rapid advances in knowledge and treatment modalities. We sought to review mobile decision support tools available to clinicians for this essential and increasingly difficult task, and to highlight the development and implementation of novel mobile applications for these purposes.

Recent Findings: We found 211 mobile applications related to diabetes from the search, but only five were found to provide clinical decision support for outpatient diabetes management and none for perioperative decision support.
