Inadequate eating habits, such as excessive caloric intake and diets high in saturated fats, are associated with the development of obesity and intestinal alterations. Green coffee is rich in bioactive antioxidant compounds, which may assist in obesity management. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of aqueous green coffee extract on intestinal health in Wistar rats fed a high-fat diet.

Green coffee is rich in bioactive compounds with antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties. This study evaluated the effect of green coffee extract (Coffea canephora), as treatment or prevention, on metabolic alterations and morphology of liver and adipose tissue pad in rats fed a high-fat diet (HF). Forty-eight male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) were divided into four groups: normocaloric diet (CT), HF, high-fat diet with green coffee extract as prevention (HFP), or as treatment (HFT).

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is a source of fiber, carbohydrates, minerals and phytochemicals such as carotenoids and phenolic compounds. Biofortification with provitamin A carotenoid improves the nutritional properties of sweet potatoes and can contribute to reducing the deficiency of this micronutrient, but cooking may affect its composition. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of seven different domestic cooking processes (deep frying, air frying, steaming, boiling, pressure cooking, baking, and microwave cooking) on the color, phenolic compounds, antioxidant activity, and real retention of β-carotene in biofortified sweet potatoes.

Forty-four male C57BL/6 mice were divided into 4 groups: AIN (standard diet), HF (high-fat diet), AIN + DTP (standard diet supplemented with 400 mg of digested chia seed protein), and HF + DTP (high-fat diet supplemented with 400 mg of digested chia seed protein) during 8 weeks. Colon morphology, tight junction's gene expression, and gut microbiota composition were evaluated.

Macauba () is a palm tree native from Brazil, whose pulp is rich in oil that has a high content of oleic acid and carotenoids. Macauba pulp oil can bring health benefits due to its bioactive compounds; however, its effects on gut health are unknown. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of macauba pulp oil on the intestinal health in mice fed a high-fat (HF) diet.

Macauba pulp oil has high contents of oleic acid, carotenoids, and tocopherol, but its effect on health is unknown. We hypothesized that macauba pulp oil would prevent adipogenesis and inflammation in mice.

This study aimed to evaluate the protein quality and influence on biochemical markers, short chain fatty acids content, intestinal morphology, and intestinal functionality in rats of macauba kernel. Male young rats were divided into three groups ( = 8) that received a control diet (casein), and two test diets (M30: 30% semi-defatted macauba kernel flour or M50: 50% semi-defatted macauba kernel flour) for 29 days.

Walph) is predominantly consumed in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil, and its biofortification with iron seeks to reduce the high prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in these regions. It is commonly eaten cooked; however, in the germinated form, it can improve nutritional quality by reducing the antinutritional factors and consequently improving the bioavailability of elements.
