Background: Excessive adiposity increases disease risk, however, the metabolic processes underlying these associations remain incompletely understood.
Methods: We compared metabolic signatures (MSs) of adiposity indices (non-allometric: body fat %, waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, body mass index; allometric: a body shape index [ABSI], hip index [HI], waist-to-HI ratio) by sex and examined their cross-sectional associations with 29 clinical biomarkers in 151,526 UK Biobank participants. MSs performance was validated in an independent cohort.

Background: Waist circumference (WC) and its allometric counterpart, "a body shape index" (ABSI), are risk factors for colorectal cancer; however, it is uncertain whether associations with these body measurements are limited to specific molecular subtypes of the disease.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) create systems networks and gene-expression circuits through molecular signaling and cell interactions that contribute to health imbalance and the emergence of cardiovascular disorders (CVDs). Because the clinical phenotypes of CVD patients present a diversity in their pathophysiology and heterogeneity at the molecular level, it is essential to establish genomic signatures to delineate multifactorial correlations, and to unveil the variability seen in therapeutic intervention outcomes.
