Background: RNA modifications, including m6A, m1A, m5C, m7G, and ac4C, may play a role in the occurrence and development of cancer, such as proliferation. However, the effects of RNA modification-related genes (RRGs) in the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) have not been fully elucidated. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects and mechanisms of RRGs on OSCC development progression.

Transthoracic echocardiography plays a crucial role in clinical diagnosis and is increasingly being used around the world. Comprehensive echocardiographic examinations require accurate measurements and the operators to have excellent technical skills. Despite the availability of several published echocardiographic guidelines, the absence of recommended operational manuals in daily practice has resulted in significant variation in the content of echocardiography reports across different medical institutions.

Objective: To establish an animal model of oral squamous cell carcinoma invading the mandible through multi-sample experiments that verified the stability, repeatability, tumorigenicity and mandible destruction rate of the model.

Methods: Oral squamous cell carcinoma cell suspension was injected into the outer side of the mandible through the anterior edge of the masseter muscle of naked mice to observe the tumourforming process. Then, the anatomical, histological and imaging examinations were carried out to determine whether the tumour had invaded the mandible.

Introduction: Central sleep apnea (CSA) is a common and serious comorbidity mainly occurring in patients with heart failure (HF), which tends to be underdiagnosed and has not been widely studied. Overnight polysomnography (PSG) is the gold standard for diagnosing CSA; however, the time and expense of the procedure limit its applicability. Portable monitoring (PM) devices are convenient and easy to use; however, they have not been widely studied as to their effectiveness in detecting CSA in patients with HF.

Background: The sutureless valve has gained popularity for degenerative aortic valve stenosis but not congenital bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) due to anatomical challenges. We reviewed our modified implant techniques for patients with BAV.

Methods: From June 2015 to June 2019, 66 patients with aortic valve stenosis were treated with the Perceval sutureless valve, 20 of whom had BAV.

Article Synopsis
  • A study analyzed the outcomes of patients with end-stage renal disease and atrial fibrillation undergoing either peritoneal dialysis (PD) or hemodialysis from 2001 to 2013, focusing on risks of ischemic stroke, major bleeding, and intracranial hemorrhage (ICH).
  • Results revealed that patients on PD had significantly lower risks of ICH and major bleeding compared to those on hemodialysis, with notable differences observed at 1, 3, and 5-year follow-ups.
  • The findings conclude that the type of dialysis treatment chosen can greatly influence the overall health risks for patients with these conditions, suggesting that PD may be a safer option in this demographic.

Curved M-mode images of global strain (GS) and strain rate (GSR) provide sufficiently detailed spatiotemporal information of deformation mechanics. This study investigated whether a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) could accurately classify these images in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who underwent radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) with different outcomes. We retrospectively evaluated 606 consecutive patients who underwent RFCA for drug-refractory AF.

This retrospective study aimed to clarify the short-term and mid-term outcomes of and prognostic factors for patients who underwent surgical repair for uncomplicated acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD). Between January 2007 and June 2019, 603 consecutive patients underwent ATAAD repair at our institution. According to patients' preoperative presentations and imaging studies, uncomplicated ATAAD was found in 276 (45.

Article Synopsis
  • A retrospective study on acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) examined 656 patients, revealing that 22 (3.4%) needed preoperative cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); they were split into survivor (9) and non-survivor (13) groups based on discharge status.
  • Among those who received CPR, the in-hospital mortality rate was 59.1%, with a significant proportion requiring additional surgical procedures during CPR, and the survivor group exhibited a higher return of spontaneous heartbeat (100% vs. 53.8%).
  • The 3-year survival rates were notably different: 35.1% for all patients undergoing CPR and 85.7

Background: Hemopericardium is a common and hazardous complication of acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD). This retrospective study aimed to clarify the short-term and mid-term outcomes in patients who underwent surgical rescues for hemopericardium complicated by ATAAD.

Methods: Between January 2007 and March 2019, 586 consecutive patients underwent ATAAD repair at our institution.

This retrospective study aimed to clarify the short- and mid-term outcomes of elderly patients who underwent surgery to treat left-sided native valve infective endocarditis (LSNIE). Between July 2005 and September 2015, 179 patients underwent surgical treatment for active LSNIE at a single institution. Patients were classified into two groups: ≥65 years (elderly group) and <65 years (non-elderly group).

Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is the development of heart failure during late pregnancy to months postpartum with potential fatal outcome. However, the disease is not well-studied in Asia.We aimed to investigate the epidemiology and clinical outcomes of PPCM in Taiwan.

Article Synopsis
  • This study analyzed very long-term outcomes (8-17 years) of bare metal stent (BMS) implantations in a large group of diabetic and non-diabetic patients.
  • Results showed that diabetic patients experienced significantly higher rates of all-cause mortality (28% vs. 15%) and a lower cardiovascular event-free survival rate (42% vs. 56%).
  • Overall, the findings indicate that diabetic patients had worse clinical and angiographic outcomes compared to non-diabetic patients following BMS implantation.

Article Synopsis
  • Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a heart condition occurring late in pregnancy and shortly after childbirth, and is considered a type of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).
  • A study analyzing data from 1997 to 2011 compared the clinical outcomes of PPCM and DCM patients, focusing on heart failure readmission, cardiac death, and other cardiovascular events over 1 and 3 years.
  • Results showed that patients with PPCM had significantly better outcomes than those with DCM, although the heart failure readmission rate after one year was similar, suggesting that better management of heart failure treatments is important for PPCM patients.

Background: The stability of dynamic factors has been reported to play a role in the antiarrhythmic actions of adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-sensitive potassium channel (KATP) opener in phase-2 myocardial infarction (MI) hearts. In the situation of the downregulation of KATP, the effects of KATP blocker (HMR1098) on the dynamic factors and electrophysiological changes during phase-2 MI remain unclear.

Methods: Dual voltage and intracellular Ca(2+) (Cai) optical mapping was performed in nine Langendorff-perfused hearts 4-5 hours after coronary artery ligation and five control hearts.
