Breast Tissue Reconstruction Strategies: A Tissue Engineering Approach.

Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed malignancy among women worldwide. Standard treatment often involves mastectomy, followed by chemotherapy and/or radiation. Approximately 40% of patients undergo breast reconstruction to address the physical and psychological effects of tissue loss.

Review of machine perfusion studies in vascularized composite allotransplant preservation.

The applications of Vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) are increasing since the first successful hand transplantation in 1998. However, the abundance of muscle tissue makes VCA's vulnerable to ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI), which has detrimental effects on the outcome of the procedure, restricting allowable donor-to-recipient time and limiting its widespread use. The current clinical method is Static cold storage (SCS) and this allows only 6 h before irreversible damage occurs upon reperfusion.

Outcomes of Wide-Awake Flexor Tendon Repairs in 58 Fingers and 9 Thumbs.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to present the outcomes of wide-awake flexor tendon repairs in zones 1 and 2 in a major hand trauma referral center.

Methods: Zone 1 and zone 2 wide-awake flexor tendon repairs performed between August 2018 and March 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. Outcomes were assessed by the original Strickland-Glogovac criteria for fingers and Buck-Gramcko scoring system for thumbs.

New Technique for the Proximal Leg Reconstruction: Medial Sural Artery-Based Cross-leg Flap.

Reconstruction of the lower extremity, especially the proximal lower leg, is known to be a challenge for reconstructive surgeons. When there is extensive vascular damage, the use of local flaps and microsurgical methods will be limited, so there are few reconstructive options available. We want to define the use of medial sural artery-based cross-leg flap for the reconstruction of the proximal lower leg.

Reverse Thenar Perforator Flap for Large Palmar and Digital Defects.

Reconstruction of large, full-thickness palmar and digital defects is challenging. The glabrous skin of the palm provides excellent color and texture match for palmar hand and digital defects. The reverse thenar perforator flap, which was previously infrequently used, provides a method for primary closure of large glabrous palmar skin defects.
