We hypothesized that HIV-dolutegravir-resistance is more frequent when co-administered with nucleos(t)ides with shorter intracellular half-lives. Multivariable analysis of 183 viremic (≥200c/mL) participants from four cohorts (N=660 participants) found dolutegravir-resistance in 21 (11.5%).

Role of Perinasal Musculature in Ipsilateral Nasal Obstruction During Synkinesis Progression.

Facial synkinesis can lead to unintended activation of perinasal muscles, contributing to dynamic nasal obstruction. To determine whether targeted botulinum toxin injections, compared to no treatment, reduce new ipsilateral nasal obstruction symptoms in patients with facial synkinesis, as measured by patient-reported outcomes and the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) scale. A retrospective review was conducted of patients presenting with ipsilateral nasal obstruction and synkinesis at a multidisciplinary facial nerve clinic.

Bubbling and mixing of vibrated and non-vibrated gas-fluidized active granular matter.

Numerical simulations are used to study the effect of varying magnitudes of active matter force on non-vibrated and vertically vibrated gas-fluidized granular materials. We observe that if the ratio of active matter force to gravity is less than 1, but above 0, gas bubbles produced by fluidization generally increase in size which promotes mixing. However, if the ratio of active matter force to gravity exceeds 1, then the active matter force suppresses bubbling and the mixing is poorer.

The Geosiphon-Nostoc symbiosis: recent elaboration, or remnant of an enduring association?

Background And Aims: Fungal associations with photosynthetic microbes have regularly been invoked as precursors to the evolution of land plants and their mycorrhizal associations. The fungus Geosiphon pyriformis (Glomeromycotina) deviates from its arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM)-forming relatives through the presence of an intracellular symbiosis with Nostoc cyanobacteria, and is frequently viewed as the only extant representative of an ancient and formerly widespread association between fungi and cyanobacteria that occupied early terrestrial ecosystems. Here we add to growing evidence suggesting the Geosiphon-Nostoc-like associations are not ancestral to AM associations and did not occupy landscapes prior to the evolution of land plants.

Assessing safety and feasibility of virtual reality intervention in patients with lung cancer: a pilot study.

Purpose: Lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer deaths, severely impacts psychological well-being, worsened by the stigma of smoking behavior. This study evaluated the safety, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of customized virtual reality (VR) software for people with lung cancer, focusing on its potential to enhance mental health in patient care.

Methods: Patients with lung cancer undergoing concurrent chemotherapy and radiation therapy were enrolled in our phase 1 single-arm proof-of-concept trial.
