Introduction: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) face a significantly higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, including stroke, due to the pivotal role of inflammation in atherosclerosis and thrombosis. Various anti-rheumatic agents may influence stroke risk either by increasing or decreasing it, and this effect remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between different anti-rheumatic agents and the risk of incident stroke in patients with RA using a nationwide claims database.

Based on the hypothesis that hyperuricemia is a modifiable risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression, there is an expectation that urate-lowering therapy (ULT) could delay the progression of CKD. Here, we investigated changes in kidney function and the association of the serum uric acid (sUA) level and kidney function during ULT in patients with gout. To do this we conducted post-hoc analysis on patients who received ULT with either febuxostat or allopurinol for more than six months in the CARES trial.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to determine how common COVID-19 reinfection is among patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and what risk factors contribute to it.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 351 RA patients who had COVID-19, finding that 12.3% experienced reinfection over an average follow-up of 1.5 years, with leflunomide use significantly linked to a higher reinfection risk.
  • Despite the reinfection occurrences, there were no notable changes in disease activity scores before and after reinfection, indicating overall stability in RA conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify risk factors for relapse in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs), focusing on newly diagnosed patients who had muscle biopsies from 2000 to 2017.
  • Out of 105 patients, 62% experienced a relapse, with higher antinuclear antibody (ANA) titers noted in those who relapsed; significant factors including histopathologic features and prior use of immunosuppressants were linked to relapse rates.
  • The conclusion emphasized that using immunosuppressants early during the glucocorticoid tapering phase could help reduce relapse risk in IIM patients.

Background: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) has been known to have auto-inflammatory nature; hence, the efficacy of autoantibodies is low. However, studies on autoantibodies are ongoing, with some studies showing associations. Previous studies showed that anti-protein phosphatase magnesium-dependent 1A (PPM1A) IgG was increased in patients with AS and associated with radiographic progression.

This manuscript presents a comprehensive study on the assembly of microchips using fluidic self-assembly (FSA) technology, with a focus on optimizing the spacing between binding sites to improve yield and assembly. Through a series of experiments, we explored the assembly of microchips on substrates with varying binding site spacings, revealing the impact of spacing on the rate of undesired chip assembly across multiple sites. Our findings indicate a significant reduction in incorrect assembly rates as the spacing increases beyond a critical threshold of 140 μm.
