Observations on clinical efficacy of albendazole emulsion in 264 cases of hepatic cystic echinococcosis.

Two regimens of albendazole emulsion (AbzE), a novel formulation, were used in the treatment of 264 cases of hepatic cystic echinococcosis. AbzE 10 mg/kg per day (calculated by albendazole base) was administered orally to 71 cases for 6 months to over 1 year. Imaging evaluation at the end of courses showed overall efficacy in 97.

A fast sequential image fractal coding approach based on optimal fuzzy clustering.

To reduce the coding time of the conventional method, a fast sequential image fractal compression algorithm was proposed on the basis of the principle of optimal fuzzy clustering (OFC) for an unsupervised sample set with the category number settled by the algorithm itself. We utilized the cost function defined by the OFC algorithm to obtain the best category number corresponding to the minimum value of the function. Firstly the Linde-Buzo-Gray (LBG) algorithm was realized to acquire a rough cluster of the domain pool.

Variable coupling coefficient nonlinear directional couplers with self-focusing and self-defocusing nonlinearity.

Nonlinear directional couplers (NLDCs) with a variable coupling coefficient (VCC) in self-focusing and self-defocusing materials are investigated. Specifically, the Gaussian type VCC NLDCs are studied in detail. The results show that the responses of the VCC NLDCs on self-focusing and self-defocusing materials are different, especially when input power is high.

Nonlinear optical switching matrix.

We show that nonlinear directional couplers with variable coupling coefficients can be used to compose a special kind of switching matrix. The switching matrix can be controlled by the signal itself or by a strong pump. Light routing is realized by adjustment of the power of the signal or the pump.

Expressions of cyclin E, cyclin dependent kinase 2 and p57(KIP2) in human gastric cancer.

Objective: To investigate the expressions of cyclin E, cyclin dependent kinase 2 (CDK-2) and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p57(KIP2) in human gastric cancer, and to evaluate the relationships between protein levels and clinicopathological parameters.

Methods: Western blot was used to measure the expressions of cyclin E, CDK-2 and p57(KIP2) proteins in the surgically resected gastric carcinoma, adjacent normal mucosa and metastatic lymph nodes from 36 patients.

A kind of arc-shaped all-optical waveguide switch is proposed for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, and the switching characteristics of it are investigated by means of the beam propagation method. The effects of saturation and loss on the characteristics of the switch are discussed.

Albendazole-soybean oil emulsion for the treatment of human cystic echinococcosis: evaluation of bioavailability and bioequivalence.

A single 12.5 mg/kg dose of albendazole (Abz) in tablet form (AbzT) followed 2 weeks later by an equivalent dose of Abz emulsified in 30% soybean oil (AbzE) was administered orally 2 h after the first morning meal to 7 male adult patients with cystic echinococcosis caused by Echinococcus granulosus. Serum samples were taken 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 14, 18, 24, 36, and 48 h post medication from each patient to measure the serum concentrations of albendazole sulfoxide (AbzSOX), the principal bioactive metabolite of Abz.

[Significance of MEK-ERK cascade in the development of human breast carcinoma].

Objective: To investigate the MEK and ERK expression and their relationship with clinicopathological parameters in human breast carcinoma, and the effect of preoperative chemotherapy on MEK and ERK protein expression.
