Introduction We aimed to investigate malignancy rates in atypia of undetermined significance (AUS) subcategories and their association with cytomorphologic and ultrasonographic features. Methods A total of 201 thyroid nodules with AUS cytology that underwent surgical resection were analy-zed, including 169 AUS-Nuclear (AUS-N) and 32 AUS-Other (AUS-O) nodules. Cytomorphological and ultrasonographic features, along with the American College of Radiology Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (ACR-TIRADS) and the European Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (EU-TIRADS) classifications, were analyzed to assess the association between malignancy and AUS subcategories.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of biochemical markers in normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism (nPHPT), analyse their temporal variations, and assess their correlation with adenoma localisation and size.
Methods: In this multicenter retrospective study-the largest patient cohort reported in the literature to date (n = 474) we comprehensively profiled normocalcemic patients diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism nPHPT was diagnosed based on persistently elevated PTH levels with normal serum calcium after excluding secondary causes such as vitamin D deficiency, renal impairment, and other conditions. This retrospective multicenter study included a large cohort of patients whose biochemical markers-including serum calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin D, parathyroid hormone (PTH), and glomerular filtration rate (GFR)-were measured at three time points, using standardised laboratory protocols.
Purpose: The primary objective of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the demographic, biochemical, and clinical characteristics of patients with asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism (aPHPT), analyze their long-term outcomes, and discuss the effectiveness of current therapeutic strategies in light of the existing literature. We anticipate that our study will provide clinicians with guidance regarding surgical decision-making beyond the standard criteria for aPHPT.
Methods: This was a nationwide, multicenter, observational, retrospective cohort study.
Medullary thyroid carcinoma is a rare neuroendocrine malignancy, with sporadic and hereditary forms accounting for 75% and 25% of cases, respectively. This study compares the clinicopathological features of sporadic medullary thyroid carcinoma (sMTC) and hereditary medullary thyroid carcinoma (hMTC) using real-world data to provide risk factors that aid in the early detection of the disease. Methods: The study involved 414 patients with SAT, 415 patients with GD, and 92 healthy controls. Pre-treatment hematological parameters were retrospectively compared, especially in cases where differentiation is challenging, including painless SAT, acute phase reactants negative SAT, and TSI, TRAB (Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin, TSH-receptor-antibodies) negative GD.
Objective: Accurate tumor localization is necessary for the application of minimally invasive surgery, which is preferred in the treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism. Parathormone-washout (PTH-WO) is parathyroid fine-needle aspiration followed by PTH measurement in the needle washout fluid.
